for any one who wants to know what a decent 64 barber half should look like

check out the image of the p.c.g.s. m.s. 64 1900 barber half being sold at the long beach auction in a litte over 1 month. The picture is posted on the heritage website under the long beach preview section. look at this pick and tell me if you think it's natural or dipped but the luster is like most of my barbers. I haven't decided if i'm going to bid on this coin yet cause i'm not sure if this piece was dipped and started to retone or just naturally mostly white, but i like the luster and strike and surface quality for 64. let me know what you think.

1905 PCGS MS 65 Barber Half
Looks like it has very nice toning, doesn't look dipped so maybe I have linked the wrong coin.

Because it was only a suggestion od dipping.
That looks like a ms61 hit upside the head.
The 05 is way nicer.

Nope, I like that one and will never replace it. It was a gift from a forum member.

Boy Dog, and you call me a "grumpy old time tech grader"
May I refer you to the Coinguy1 thread #2 on grading. He says not to focus too much on the negative. I agree in part, but I added about how enlarged the image could be and seeing a hit that might be overkill.
But it does look like someone took a chisel upside her head. And dipped and retoned nasty. Ok, I'll agree it's worth 60 price, but not to me.
Coinguy1 is one of those bubbly cheerful sorts that bounces out of bed all bright eyed & bushy tailed telling everybody good morning & wonderful day.
I stumble out of bed to the coffee pot like a psycho mono syllable speaking zombie and my day generally goes to hell after that.
Did you notice the slide marks all over Liberty's face & neck?
On to the coin - from the images, (which is an almost impossible way to judge fairly) my guess is that the coin is retoning from a dipping. And, in my opinion, even though I don't like the mark on the head, it is perfectly acceptable for the grade.
And I meant the hit looked like a 61 severity hit, I did not mean the COIN looked 61. It might have been market acceptable 20 years ago for a 65 to look like that but it's not a 65 I would want in my collection.
<< <i>For the record, Dog happens to be right about how I am when I get out of bed (very early) in the morning. But, it was just a lucky guess - I want to go on record as saying we do NOT sleep together. I love my wife, dearly. >>
Glad you cleared that up. Like I said earlier, I feel it's a dip and retone and the image is so enlarged that the hit on back of her head(which she probably deserved for being dipped) although looks deep is probably not that distracting considering how small a quarter is. I still wouldn't want it though. Hey Coinguy1, we agree!!!!
Back to the half, it would bother the heck out of me with that hit. Maybe it makes the grade by the book, but not in my book. I take that back Coinguy1, we don't agree
The picture of the 65 is atrocious...how can anyone think that is better by that photo? ARGH!
