Some very cheap finds at a coin store today....

Here is a nice DCAM obverse Frankie/CAM Reverse that I picked up for 15 dollars.

A Roosie that cost me 1 dollar.

Another that cost 1 dollar.

The Roosies have nice luster and the 54 has some very brilliant colors, they just don't show up well on a scanner.
The scanner does not do these coins justice....

I guess if I want to sweet talk some dealer out of his toned stuff, I better get some of those red shortsimage

Beautiful stuff you got there Lucy.

    Nices coins tooimage
  • Nice finds and even better price.
  • Very nice Lucille! Is the 56 a Type I or Type II?

Lucy, I wanna go coin shopping with you sometime. You must have a built in RADAR or something. You make some incredible finds.

Nice coins, I find that as much fun as looking at high priced material and deciding whether or not they are worth the asking price. To me this will always be what true collecting is about. I could spend hours looking through dealer flips and albums looking at nice buys.

Way to go Lucy! Now they'll be off the market for a while.image
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • I like the Franklin! But it's funny you should mention it. I too am heading out in a little while to a local dealer. I actually have a purpose buy also want to see if I can pick anything up on the cheap. Among other things I am planning for my son, I want to pick up as many "junk" coins as I can and put them in a chest... perhaps when he is 10 years old or something, we will go on a treasure hunt and .... he he he, come across a treasure chest. I have 9 years to plan this! image

If I find anything incredible, you may see my post later in the day.... after I go food shopping, get my son's haircut and go to the bank... *sigh* I thought weekends were made to relax?

  • Dakra,
I too am planning a "spur of the moment" trip to a shop today (actually in just a few minutes), but with absolutely nothing in mind. I live in the sprawling metropolis of "CentralNowhere, Alabama," where we can't even spell "coin shop," but happen to be in Birmingham today, where there is at least one coin shop that I know of.

Let's see...I'm going with nothing specific in mind and several coins heading my way already in the mail(and a new-found interest in Jeffersons(.

Any bookies in the group? Over/Under on my purchases is $75!

  • dwood,
Funny you should mention Jeffersons. I was watching that show this morning! (okay, I'm kidding) I will admit, that I too am hunting for a few Jefferson's. As a matter of fact, I'm looking for the 1938 PDS and I'm not concerned about condition. I have been going through rolls from the bank over the past few months and surprisingly, anything prior to 1958 has been extremely tough to come by. I have $100 to spend and I intend to spend most of it. I figure if I can get the 1938's for less than $20, I am going to get a good amount of junk coins.

I too want to reserve some cash for "dirty" coins. Call me crazy but if the dealer has anything covered with sludge, mud, gum and/or radioactive material, is hardly recognizable and comes cheap... I will pick them up and try my cleaning techniques on them.

    Good Luck... I'm heading out.

    -David

dwood - welcome to B'ham! If you're in town you'll want to check Doug's in Homewood out - I'll probably be heading over there in a little while myself!

Yeah, I didn't scan it, it is frost weak in the bell but it still has enough for a CAM and not DCAM......

Oh my gosh, where are your morals, do you not feel a tinge of remorse for buying $20-40 dimes for just double melt? And that CAM/DCAM half has gotta be worth over a hundred if it is PR67.

Did you not point out to the dealer that they had obviously made a mistake in pricing those items? or did you talk them down from what they had listedimage
  • Yeah - what sinin said! image

That 1956 cam was a great buy at $15. My local dealer has nothing like that. He just has a bunch of circulated stuff most dealers would have in a junk box at a show. I wish I fould find things like that.

The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.
