Has anyone notice this?

Hi, I am new and I would like to know if anyone had notice about the 1999-p doubled die Jefferson nickel error. In my search I found more than ten of them, and I wanna know if this error is famous or not, Thanks for your help

    Welcome aboard Coqui.
I,m not sure there CAN be a true doubled die in a `99 coin. The procedure moderns are made nowadays dont allow this.I,d have to say your looking at strike doubling or machine doubling which adds no real significant premium.
    Sorry.image
  • Right now I am going to by a USb icroscope to take pictures of it. But if you search some 1999-p nickels you can see it clearly. Without a magnifier.

    Hello Coqui, and welcome...

Without seeing your coin I can almost guarantee that it's not a doubled die. Doubled dies became technically impossible around the middle of 1997 due to the mint changing the method they use to make dies...they are no longer multiple hubbed, thus removing the possibility for genuine doubled dies. What you have is most likely die deterioration doubling, a common form of machine doubling most prevelantly found on nickels.

Sure sounds like machine doubling. Still, I personally think they're neat even if they aren't worth a big premium. So enjoy them and welcome to the forum!
