My attempt to scan a coin...

image

(old image replaced with new, better one) was obtained using an HP ScanJet 5100C scanner. It looks too blurry. Does this particular scanner not have high enough resolution, or am I doing something wrong? I placed the coin flat on the surface, and then saved the image to an image file. Any advice?

Thanks,

Dan

Well, I changed the resolution to 500 dpi (see new scan above). That's much better.

It don't look too terrible for a first attempt. Did you read this thread? Text What setting are you using in your drop down menus? My hp4200 has a lot of different setting but I'm not familiar with yours.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • On my scanner, I scan a larger size and downsize it, it seems to get a better image.
Also on your scanner there should be a place to set for more dpi's., that might help too.

  • I have a HP but different model. With the one I have, I have the option to adjust the sharpness and typically go as high as I can on it. Maybe adjusting the DPI to somewhere between 200 or 300 will help. Here`s a couple links to the HP website that will help.

  • For a scanned picture that looks darn good.
