I'm confused and quite possibly illiterate. My guess it's a business strike. PCGS pops back it up. Anyone?Link

You have come to the right place for an education. There were two specially made nickels made by the US mint, the 1994-P and a 1997-P. They were included in some kind of comemorative sets.

Brad, in 1994 and 1997 there were SMS Nickels and there's also the 1998-S SMS matte Half Dollar. However, these are very different from the SMS coins produced in 65-67 when no proofs were produced.

  • Yes it is a business strike.
  • The '94 nickels came from the Thomas Jefferson coin and currency set released by the US Mint that year while the '97 came from the Botanic Gardens coin and currency set. These nickels have a satin or matte like finish so are easier to identify from their business strike counterparts than the '65-67 SMS nickels. I can't really tell much from that image.
