Your opinions on 1882-s Morgan - Reverse Doubled?

I decided to take the plunge on this 1882-s Morgan. To me, it looks like it might earn a proof like designation. Do you agree? How about the grade? It is currently graded by ANACS, but I would like to cross it to PCGS. Thanks for your time. image

The reverse words, "One Dollar" appear that they may be doubled? Is there a VAM designation for this? Just curious.

That beat up face looks 62. Where's the rev pict?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Ok I scrolled down & saw it. I don't know of any with doubled rev but the date looks doubled but there are about 2 dozen different varities of 82-S with doubled date. The obv looks PL but they rev doesn't.

Thanks Dog. Here's the same picture that isn't so close up.

Cracked slab even. In the Heritage cycle eBay is where the stuff they can't sell ends up.
I hope it works out well for you.

    Agflyer,

In my opinion and going by that poor Heritage pic, that coin has less than a 1% chance of crossing to a 66 at PCGS and won't make a PL either. IMO. usually by the time a coin from Heritage makes it to Ebay at their so-called "wholesale dealer" price, it's already been for sale through their inventory, an auction or two, back to inventory, etc, and did not sell.

Also, who does Heritage think they're kidding by telling people they are offering coins on Ebay at "wholesale levels or less" and then asking full retail for them??

Now about that coin: The face looks way to scruffy for even an ANACS MS66 IMO, and won't cross to either PCGS or NGC. It is also somewhat PL on the obv. (a semi-common trait on a minority of 82-S's) and not PL on the reverse. I have -2- 1882-S's that are incredible DMPL cameos on the front and completely frosty on the back, hence no PL designation. Unless that coin has much better surfaces in person, I would be very hesitant to keep it at that price.

Thanks for all your honest replies. As you can probably tell, I'm not an experienced Morgan collector. Before bidding on this coin I did, however, check out other Morgans for sale by the same seller. Their photos appeared similar in quality and so I'm hoping it does look better in person. I'll let you know my opinion of it when I do see it in person. Thanks again for your comments. I appreciate this board being an advocate for coin collectors out there like me! image

  • Here`s an example of a 1879-s PCGS graded MS66.
