Hard to tell, I can't judge how deep the mirrors are from the scan, but, it looks like a outside shot at dcam..

sounds like it may upgrade to dcam, if it were mine, I would give it a shot...

  • BigDave- I totally disagree with you regarding NGC's cam/ucam standard vs. that of PCGS. I think PCGS standard for cameo is much more strict than that of NGC. The difference in dcam vs. ucam is more narrow, though the tougher standard still goes to PCGS.

Where you will run some REAL risk is in the numerical grade. I've had lots of NGC proof Franklins downgrade when cracking them out.

I see the coin as Cameo, not dcam.

Not sure the Frost is heavy enough, but it could sneak into a dcam, I need that year for my Registry set, if it were mine, I'd send it in no matter what grade PCGs gave it, and right into my set it would go and fill a hole.......

  • I'm sure I don't have to tell you that '57 was one of the worst years for mis-matched die pairs. Your coin is certainly not an extreme example of such. However, the obverse does "appear" to be the better cameo. My concern is with the reverse. Dave, I find that coin very attractive!

Well........good luck with the crack-out. Personally, I wouldn't attempt it. Yet, I really admire your gumption. Let us know the results. I am always interested the results of such attempts.

dave, that is one of the best die pairs for the date. youshould see one off that pair in the first 75-100 struck. mega daddies they are. completely worked dies with no pocks and the fields on those are pure

I think your best chance at a DCAM designation is to crack it out; may only garner a PF67 for the grade though. Are you willing to take that chance? From what I can see of the images, I think it is maxed out in its current slab.
