Vanishing eBay Auction???

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
I had a bid on a coin over at eBay. With a little over 1 day remaining, I checked "my eBay" only to find it was no longer listed and didn't show up anywhere including a search. My first thought is that it was cancelled but I assume I would receive some type of notice. Can anyone explain the mystery? Thanks.

If it was canceled and if you were the high bidder, you should get a email. If someone did a bin you should be able to goto my ebay and find under items I'm bidding on.. Or, you were in a drunken stupor and never bid on a thing!

Occasionally eBay pulls them for ?whatever? reason and all traces disappear -

past due seller fees, possible fraud, etc

I told eBay about this clown three days ago, and his auction is still running strong. Hooray for Scumthumper! image

Was the coin you referred to a raw 1945P MS66FS? If so I was watching it. It was also pulled recently.

Here is my belief - Since many bidders (including me sometimes) wait till the last minute to snipe, the seller is getting an offer to buy the coin outright at a higher price than the current bid. The seller in some cases is taking a "sure" thing rather than chance last minute bids.

I am also guilty of this practice, but not on this coin. Buyers are just getting more agressive for coins they really want.

Do you believe in micro-black holes? They can suck up auctions, automobiles, elephants, .... right into another universe, never to be seen again, and they leave no trace of their work. Just poof!, and its gone. image

Absolutely, I was educated as as physicists and I have years of empirical evidence proving that Russ's statement is absolutely correct; a corollary of several well known laws of nature, and even of metaphysical significance.image
