Why no pictures?

I noticed when poking around the Set Registry, not many people upload pictures. Is there a reason for this? I would like to see some of the cards people have collected.
Looking for Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels in PSA 8 or better

  • I can't answer your question. I've uploaded many images to the set registry in my sets. Especially if I think the card is truly nice looking for its grade.

I'm equally suprised that some of the top sets are not set up to allow the rest of us to see the card grades, dream, and drool. These are the very sets that I wish would uploda some images. I've never even seen some of the pre-war cards in high grade - thats some of the fun of the registry.

I have scans of every card that I have on the registry (even if it is a PSA 5). I personally would like to look at cards...not numbers.

I would say that I have loaded over 3000 cards and it does take some time, but I think it is worth it.

Time...not the magazine. To locate my cards in storage, scan them and upload the pix takes a lot of time that I really don't have. You're right though, looking at scans of the great stars [even some of the great commons] is a lot of fun. Someday....image

  • CreeperKat,

    I wholeheartedly agree.

Here is some text from one of my previous posts:

"I post a scan (front & back) of every card that I list on the set registry, whether it is a PSA 5 or PSA 10. I wish more members would do this. It allows others to see what cards look like in varying grades. It is also a great database for cards. I've pulled scans from other members' sets for various purposes, and it's great to have that resource available. I know it's not an option for some and can be time consuming, but it really adds to the experience."

I have 1500 or so scanned cards on the registry. Please, everyone upload your scans.

    Thanks.

    JEB.

  • Dealer Perspective: The time invested in scanning a few cards will easily be rewarded with impulse buys. With so many collections on the Registry maintained by dealers (money hungry collectors), it's amazing to me that they fail to see the marketing potential.

C'mon fellow HOF collectors - please post some pics on the registry. Place a watermark on the image if you're afraid of it being stolen!!! Or, are you afraid of the competition. My set is the BETTER looking then yours!

Don't have a scanner - and the digital camera just doesn't do the cards justice.

  • I personnally began scanning all my cards for sets about 6 months ago... For several reasons:

1.) I am proud of collection and I also like to see scans of other collections.. Knowing others feel that way I scan the cards.

2.) I collect some unusual stuff that most people do not get a chance to see : 1914 Polo Grounds Game, 1936 Goudey, 1968 Topps GAme , 1969 Topps Decals.

3.) I do sell cards and popping a link into the registered set of my listing allows someone to see scans of all the cards. This is perfect when you want to sell a set.

I generally do not worry about image theft... As the stuff I colect quite frequently on EBAy for upgrades or holes so I would probably catch on to that quite quickly....

I used a digital camera for years...but just purchased a scanner just for my PSA cards. For the past week Ive been getting advice from others and adjusting the settings. Im excited to upload my whole collection over the next month. I find its a nice way to "play" with my cards between purchases. Plus, if you ever want to sell...you have a picture already available (I keep a copy in my hard drive or on a CD). Or you can use the URL from the registry website as free image hosting.

  • When you don't have many sets on the registry, it's easy (especially when the 'set' is only 8 cards!) image

    Enjoy! (1973 Topps 53 Reprints)
  • I keep scans on the registry for all of the PSA 9 or PSA 10 cards in my set. I have not scanned the PSA 8's just to save a little time, and because I know I intend to upgrade them when I have the opportunity. If at some point I get close enough so that I just have a few 8's left, then maybe I will go ahead and scan those too, but at this point there are still 110+ cards that have yet to be graded above an 8.
  • Does anyone not put scans of their cards on the web because they are afraid that someone is going to use your scans illegally on eBay or some other site?

Just curious....since that is one of the reasons why I do not put my scans up.

    CDC4:

Because of concern relating to this problem, I typically will white out the PSA Certification Verification Number from the scan. It's one simple extra step -- so if I go to the trouble of making the scan, I'll post it in my Registry, but white out the cert. number so that no one could reasonably use that to sell the card...

  • Scanning all your cards in your set takes a lot of time.....but it's very satisfying when you can look through your set and see each card pictured.
I would advise anybody to scan and upload the pics as soon as you register your card......if you have to go back and do it after you already have tons of cards registered, it can be a time consuming pain.

After all.....the Set Registry is set up to show your cards as well as just listing the grades.....So, to me, you're not getting the fullest out of the registry if you're not showing your cards to the world too.

With special applause going to some of the high-end collectors who have scanned their museum-level sets into the Registry. Brian Seigel definitely comes to mind with his mind-blowing run of T-206 Hall of Famers.

  • Not sure I understand the post that someone could steal your image or Certification number. Let's say you register the card and upload the picture. Someone takes your image and/or certification number and uses it to sell a different card on eBay. I can only see a few possible outcomes:

    A) The buyer realizes that the card and certification number don't match what was in the auction. Should have no effect on the person who has the card registered. Buyer and seller can duke it out.

    B) The buyer tries to add the certification number to the registry but gets blocked because the card is already registered. He takes it up with PSA which should find that the buyer's card is a fraud. Only impact on the registered user will be possibly hassling with PSA and buyer/seller of the fraud.

    Am I missing something?

    CreeperKat:

Basically I think that there are some sham artists who will post a great scan -- take your money through Paypal and run. It has happened before, and it will happen again. There has been a lot of ebay evidence over the past two years of people stealing images from the baseball card collection that is imaged on the Library of Congress site. I think in some of those instances -- the seller would use the image from the site, make a reproduction of the card and then ship that out.

At any rate, it happens time and again on Ebay, and is just something to be careful of. I think that there have been quite a few instances where people have stolen scans of 1986 Fleer Jordan rookies graded PSA 10 -- put them on Ebay or yahoo as zero or low feedback sellers and try to quickly get some money and run.

It's probably not a terribly difficult scam to run if you can cover your tracks efficiently. After all, all you need is one stolen credit card number (very easy to find) and an e-mail address. As long as you can move the money quickly, you're set....

I started to upload images of my '69T baseball set starting with the star cards and low pop commons. It is time consuming though. Also, I get burned out scanning cards for auctions which means my set scanning always gets second priority. I agree with the suggestion to scan and upload as you add cards to the registry. Problem for me is that I submitted my set in 200 card blocks.
