What would you pay for a 1955 double die au58 R/B

I have a chance to pick up a 55 double die lincoln, I grade au-58 and pretty certain of my grading skills on cents. It has no carbon spots, pvc etc. The color is not outstanding, i.e. no purples, just a plain red brown but attractive. Any ideas on a fair price? I know the dealer and the coin is legit.

  • I'm guessing an AU coin to be brown no matter what, unless cleaned. I would offer in the $500-$600 range to cushion you from overgrading. You could offer a little bonus if it comes back higher. My question is why hasn't it already been graded? These usually sell at nice prices. I've bought several and fought many bidders to get them. Iras4 was the seller, a good guy.

Old time dealer not into slabbing coins. I am familiar with the 55 double die and studied this particular coin up close and personal.

I'm don't have any expertise in Lincolns, other than haveing looked at quite a few, and I have come close to purchasing a similar coin. Out of the plastic, I'd probably go up to $650 if I really liked the coin and felt confident that it would grade AU53 or above.

Just an opinion since you asked. image

I think these prices sound about right. If you are really happy with the looks of the coin and plan to hold it for a few years you might even go a little more. I feel these will always bring a strong price.
