value of a cleaned 31-S Lincoln

Someone posed this question to me recently, and I thought I'd see what others think. If you bought a 1931-S Lincoln (raw) that was stated to be an MS64, and found out under magnification that it was cleaned, what would that due to the value. Besides the fact that they should return it for a refund, would the value drop in half, drop only a little, etc.? Your thoughts?

  • It would drop the value, but not tremendously, since the price leap from circulated to uncirculated is rather small. I'd probably figure on EF to AU money (figure around $45-$50) for it.

Concur with Mastahanky...on that particular issue there is little real difference in value between many grades...a point or two for cleaning doesn't hurt it much.
