Modern Quality low?

Is it just the ones I get, or does this happen to everyone? It seems like enough of the modern proof coins I bought over the last few years have spotted, even though they are slabbed. Not all but enough to make me stop with the mints new coins. To me they are a total waste of money.

  • The past few years, the quality of the proofs sets and the mint sets have been extremely low. It's almost as if they don't take any care or pride in making these sets.

  • Lw,

What years are you referring to???? The last few years, since the State Quarter program launched, have had way above average coins in them, all at least MS64 from the few hundred I have looked at. And with the exception of the Sacajawea and one or two select State Quarters, the proofs all are PR67 DCAM and better. And that's not considered ok? Every mint set from this time period has had at least one to two coins that are MS66 quality or better, try that with a 71 Mint Set for moderns, not to mention the earlier mint sets, and as far as proof sets, 1972 and prior, good luck on getting more than one Deep Cameo coin out of a proof set.

No, I'm not talking quality of strike. I'm more interested in the quality of materials. The last few years of say, Silver Eagles. A lot of them have spotted in the fields. Slabbed or not.
