Barber pics as promised.....

Casey, Draco, and Tyler.......here are a few Barber pics I promised.

But here’s the deal, guys: First of all, sorry for the quality of some of these images. Some are only so-so. Not my fault! My woman made be move my PC and desk upstairs into a back bedroom. She said it was ludicrous to have all my crap spread out in the dining room (geez, next she'll want a dining room table!)

Anyway, the move really messed up my lighting situation for these pictures. I’m having to experiment with my camera, and re-invent the wheel, so to speak. Very painful.

As most of you guys know, I primarily mess with VF-XF material. But occasionally a mint state piece comes up that I like, so I pick it up.

Hope you Barber Nuts and the other board members like 'em. I’ll post more soon.....

Dave

1896-s PCGS VF20 - I looked a long time for this one. Barely makes VF, but of PCGS says it is, so be it (JJ Teaparty).

1893-s NGC MS63 - A nice pretty quarter. Bought this one from David Lawrence himself in about 1994 or 95. It has a few slide marks on the cheek, but it is really a cutie. And oh, what a reverse....

1894-p PCGS MS64 - A common date, but a nice quarter all the same. Looks 65+ to me. Bullseye-type rainbow toning on the reverse. Had to have it once I turned it over (Heritage auction).

1915-s NGC MS63 (Half) - Thought I would throw his one in tonight as well, just to show you guys I wasn't discriminating against half dollars. Wild toning, but pretty dinged up. Kind of looks like it went down a garbage disposal. This is a good example of a coin that probably got bumped up a notch due to the toning alone. Looks much flashier in person.

Anyway, I'll experiment some more with the camera and post more later. See ya, Dave

It's nice to look at some original Barbers. The 94 is a looker. I can imagine rocking that coin around, the rev is really sweet. Thanks for posting them.

That's the kind I go for. I'm not going to say they are pretty but I find the original surfaces attractive, more so than dipped white ones with spots etc.
I know you went to a lot of time & effort to post those pictures and we liked them. image

Dave, I'm not sure some of the newer Barber collectors on the board will appreciate these original Barbers, it might take a lot of time and money on mistakes. It took me a long time to appreciate these that you post but I'll never go back. When you get the time, please do post some more pics. I haven't seen anything but white dipped out ones for a long time on here.

Nicely done Dave, finally something coin worthy to talk about...Barbers! Great pics all, the 96-S is really nice knowing how few VF coins are in existance.

Here is my 93-S half that is darkly toned but has cool toning (at least to me). This is the only date in the series that is very scarce in every grade from Good through the mint state grades, well the 97-S probably too.

    1893-AU55 or so

Nice looking coins! That 96-s is a TOUGH coin to find in that grade.

Original coins are getting "rarer" every day. You are to be commended for preserving them. Don't let anyone try to "help" those beauties.

    Thanks for sharing the images.

If you want to sell the 1896s please contact me. I am looking for one exactly like that. It's a buggar of a year/mm to find them in the middle grades.

Thank you for posting those images! All of the coins posted thus far by Dave and Tyler are absolutely beautiful pieces that I would be extremely happy to have in my collection. These coins, when found in unmolested, original condition, are so scarce that most collectors have never seen more than one or two. I know how long you had to have searched for these and they were worth it.

thanks for the pics. [i like the 94] barbers with origonal toning are always interesting to look at.
