PCGS Submission Results...SCORE!

Hey everyone! I am the new owner of the POP 1 2001 PR70 DCAM Platinum Eagle! I cracked 20 mint holders and the results are below. #11 will give my registry set some credibility. Hope you don't mind my bragging...I'm jazzed.

We are finite beings, limited in all our powers, and, hence, our conclusions are not only relative, but they should ever be held subject to correction. Positive assurance is unattainable. The dogmatist is the only one who claims to possess absolute certainty.

Just curious, if you were to cover up the grade and have to guess which coin was the 70, could you do it?
    Congratulations on your success!

BTW, what submission level and when did it arrive at PCGS?

    Russ, NCNE
  • rickrman, I am in shock at this moment. This whole modern thing sounds like a game. Did you know that your "pop 1" coin was a 70 when you submitted it? I doubt it. They probably all looked like identical, brand spankin' new coins minted with high tech equipment under controlled conditions....which they were. This slabbing of moderns seems analogous to playing the lottery......just a game. And please, do not attack me for expressing my opinion. I challenge ANYONE to pick out a 70 coin from a group of 19 MS-69's and 1 MS-70. Any takers? That offer is open to anyone at ANY grading service, too. BARF!

Congratulations! I've never made a "70" (well, PCI doesn't count!). Cool, and a wonderful find!
Those are beautiful coins to begin with, add the 70 grade and I bet it is spectacular.

  • It's better than "a Buick sized load"
  • Numised has a very good point.

I've spent quite a bit of time going thru all my PR69DCs trying to find some type of flaw. In some cases I can and in others I can't. I'd love to see a good photo lineup of a bunch of 69s with a single 70 just to see if anyone could pick it out (including myself).

I'm just wondering what does the M/G mean? i'm sure i know i just can't think of it right now.

  • M/G Means minimum grade. He put a Min grade, probably PF69 and that coin did not meat it.

  • M/G does mean "missed grade" or something similar. When I compare qualities of the coins the requirement appears to be excellence of strike and polish. The 69s have no discernable flaws but I believe the sharpness of the details differentiate the 70 which can probably happen only with a new die on the first few strikes. As far as barfing on this as a crapshoot, I agree...that's why I do it...to attempt to acquire a nice set to give to my son without having to pay whore house prices. The grading of "MODERN" coins is also an exercize in preservation and in my humble opinion worth $12. A beautiful coin is a work of art as much as any painting and worth saving for others to enjoy.

Hope my high grade business strikes are not graded anywhere near the same time as your "perfect" coins. No such luck lately. image
  • CONGRATS on the 70!! Hey numised, remember what I said two days ago? If and when someone on the board gets a 70 they will tell us. Now, the platinums are a bit different than , say, a Kennedy half to begin with. They are made in such infinitesmally small quantities that the dies are always in good condition even on mint strikes, and the planchets are handled like, well, platinum.
It is a crap shoot and I for one would love to own the ms-70, but my limited means prohibits sending in platinum coins.
  • Nice - wish we could get those type results.
