I agree, it does look thin. Also, I would never buy a high grade vintage star card holdered by a fifth tier grading company. One always has to asked the question "if the card is so nice, why not grade with PSA or SGC and get 5x more money for it when it sells?" I think the best case scenario is getting an 8 or 88 with PSA or SGC respectively. The worst, and most likely, case would be "EVID TRIM".
I would heed Dan's warning from the past. I try to buy my stars from dealers I know well.
Dan--Dont look now I am right on your tail. I moved into the fifth spot next week and have 50 cards on the way including the Mantle my wife so graciously bought for me.
I agree with the others, If the card is so great why would you leave a couple of hundred dollars on the table and have it graded by an unknown company.
I would put Elites grading standards right up there with PRO. If this card is not fake or trimmed, the most it would get from psa is an 8 at best, in my humble opinion.
I have two complete sets of 1969 topps baseball and many of the ones that I have purchased from Larry Frisch vending runs even come back with trim evidence, although I know that they were straight from the factory in 69, they just have bad or un-even cuts.
69' is too tough of a year to be messing around with, I would wait a pick up a nice psa 8 or 9 from ebay or from a private dealer sale that you could trust.

Ray-- She started buying me cards when she hit 40 a couple years ago. I threatened to trade her for two 20 year olds and she got with the program. I hope she dont read this I might be the one that is traded
Stump -- Thanks for warning. Ouch! I still have tire tracks on my back in the '72 Kelloggs and '67 Philly FB Registries. BTW - I have a '68 Fryman at PSA which should grade 8. I'll give you first shot at it and it will be for a fraction of what the other one just sold for on eBay.
Hold the Cheese Bruno. I can't even get wrinkles out with a spoon like i hear everybody else does, let alone trying all this other fancy stuff you guys are doing to your cards. I'm pretty good at cracking holders apart though........... lately, I just put them outside and let the -34 degree adirondack air do the rest. I got one stuck to my tongue last night though.
Jackstraw from Witchitaw - I have a nice unaltered '69 topps super Jackson rookie that the Mastro boys sent to Global and it is in an 8 holder. let me know if you are interested.
Dan----Thanks for the heads up on the Fryman it has been pretty elusive for me. I finally got the 2,9,and the 10 in eight so I am down to three to upgrade. Fryman Cardwell and the number 5 card. The 5 just came up on ebay so I guess its esnipe time.
Agree with Gemint in that the card would only get an 8 in the best case scenario if it is legit. I also agree with being wary with a 5th tier grading company on such an important card. Nevertheless, there are some "strange" PSA 9's and PSA 10's from the 1969 set that have been floating around on e-Bay recently. I have gathered important information from veteran 1969 collectors regarding certain "9's" and "10's" from the 1969 set that are floating around the auction circuit and I have saved a lot of money and heartache as a result. You are doing the right thing in asking experienced collectors about this card!
Ron, I hadn't heard the story with the PSA 9/10 1969s you refer to. Can you PM me or post details on here? I don't typically chase 10's but did consider bidding on one of the cards from the lot that recently hit eBay.
There is no "story" on the 1969 cards. It is already common knowledge that the issue has an undesireable tendency to have a "tilt". How much "tilt" one accepts is a matter of personal choice since there seems to be a lot of variation on what PSA tolerates. For instance, one prominent dealer was selling a 1969 #95 Bench in PSA 9 for only $475 at last year's national. The challenge was whether or not you could live with the severe "tilt" which probably fell within PSA's acceptable standards for PSA 9, but might have fell outside what many collectors would consider a "mint" card. I respectfully passed on the card.
Another challenging situation is the centering of PSA 10s from 1969. For instance, the PSA 10s in my collection (#91 Dark and #460 Torre) have razor sharp corners and probably meet the PSA standards for a "10". However, are these cards necessarily more appealing than my PSA 8 #180 Willie Horton or my PSA 9 Tony Gonzalez which also have razor sharp corners? I don't think so!
As a result, I have a "Major II" set that contains "lower" PSA grades of cards I have in either PSA 9 or PSA 10 in the "Major I" set that I have kept simply because they have equal or better eye appeal. This is a dilemma that every 1969 collector deals with in addition to trying to complete and upgrade the set.
At last year's national, I had the opportunity to see first-hand some of the 1969 PSA 10s that came up for auction in the last 3 months. I knew what their strengths and weaknesses were before they hit the auction circuit. This year, one important objective at Atlantic City will be to determine which recently graded 1969 cards are strong and which are weak in my eyes. In addition, I look forward to hearing the perspectives of other veteran collectors/dealers who have an interest in the 1969 issue.

A Mantle buying wife? .... WOW!
Jackstraw - I am in concurrence with the others. Steer clear; there is plenty of more action in 69' land.

How's that esnipe working out for you? Have you had any problems with the guy since beginning to snipe?
I know some other members here were going to help out with this guy. Any news yet.
Let us know.
Thanks.
