Any body ever deal on EBAY with Howardsdirect? Good bad?

image Tried to buy a few coins from him in the past. Got kinda pricey and are mostly in the new PCI(yuk) holders. I dont buy those unless I can look at them in person. Is he on these forums? If so what is his handle? link to one of their auctions

  • Don't know if he's on these forums or not. I have purchased one coin from him on ebay and it was solid for the grade (MS64 PCGS Buffalo). The only problem that I have with the seller is that almost all of his auctions state that the coin will upgrade and in my opinion, that is simply hype to get people to bid on his auctions.

Just make sure you know and agree on what the shipping charges are going to be on your lot before you bid. image

  • I bought from them once, then realized the shipping was seven bucks on a $29.00 item.

    Shame on me.

A couple of weeks later, I wasn't paying attention and did it again, on a $180.00 itm.

    Shame on me again.

  • I purchased a Type II Double Eagle from him a few months ago--the coin was NGC-45, grade was appropriate, service and communication were decent, and overall, I have no complaints. If he had something I wanted and the price was right, I would not hesitate to deal with him again.

Shipping is high, but well-packed. Ensure you figure shipping into your bid price. Items accurately pictured and described. Even with the high shippign, I still got a pretty good deal. I would buy from again if the price is right.

I've yet to run across one of their auctions starting at 7.77 and no reserve as their ad boldly states.

He's a major PCI player. Shipping is usually $6-$8 on all items. I stay away. I bought one coin three
months ago, only because it was a PCI Liberty nickel in AU. Got it for a couple of dollars. Almost free.

  • Just once a couple of years ago when he was the major distributor for AGS (Advanced Grading Service) slabs. Talked to them at Indiana State in November and the people working for him now weren't even aware of AGS. (AGS has gotten out of coins and now only slabs ballcards)
  • I really don't understand the high shippping charges. You can ship in a flat rate priority mail envelope with delivery confirmation for less than $7. Plus you don't have to use your own supplies. I NEVER bid on auctions when the shipping is more than $5.
