AU-50 for the dime and EF-40 for the quarter.......just a guess

Edited to say: If they are not cleaned

The dime is either EF or is weakly struck. It also looks like it has been dipped, but if done properly it should be fine. The quarter has AU details.

This is a little difficult via a scan, but here goes:

    Dime: Body bag

    Quarter: AU55

Dave, why the body bag on the dime?
  • I think the quarter will ef45 or au50 and the dime will come back in a bodybag. Just a guess!

Casey - Just a guess. It looks very lightly cleaned to me. It looks lightly brushed. Plus, is looks very dull, life-less.....maybe overdipped? Anyway, it's just a wild guess. I'd have to see it first hand for a real opinion. But my guess is PCGS will bag it.

I do like the quarter, though. Looks original to me.

the dime is cleaned, for myself i wouldn't bother submitting it even if p.c.g.s. graded it. the quarter does have a.u. details but where is any trace of luster in the protected areas ? most a.u. 50 barber quarters and halves will have at least a trace of luster in the protected areas [maybe there is some, but it's not coming thru in the images. the combination of very even color on both sides of the quarter with the lack of any trace of luster makes me think that one is more likely to get bagged then the dime, but with the way p.c.g.s. seams to be losening up on "conserving" coins lately it might be worth a shot. good luck

I think the dime is low AU & the quarter is XF.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Thanks Mike. I'm trying to dig around in my raw coins and pick up what I can from ebay that looks decent and get the collection going again. I really need to update that page though. When I finally have everything sorted out, I'll have pictures along with the entire list or pcgs, ngc, anacs and mint and raw stuff I have piled in boxes. I'm a pack rat and very unorganized but it's getting there. I'm trying to get as much of the "grade worthy" raw stuff sent out as I can.

The colors on the quarter are too dark, sorry. The lighter colored areas are actually pretty close to what one might call original luster and all of the darder areas have a pretty dark layer of toning/tarnishing/dirt. I agree with all you you that the dime appears cleaned, but I can find no evidence of it on the coins surface and I don't have another to compare it to so I suppose I have to wait and see what PCGS does. I bought this coin recently. . I think $95. . .screwed????
  • .10 BB for sure
.25 possible BB or AU50-55 if they are in a good mood, but it too has been cleaned
  • This dime is being advertised on ebay by a board member as MS63. If this doesn't get a BB, my quarter sure shouldn't.

ACK!! Ok, maybe I'm biased since I own them. All I can say is that if they were cleaned, it wasn't by me. In any event, good or bad results will be posted when PCGS finishes putting a few fingerprints on them (not that I'd see them on these coins anyway).

Dracos, that 1892 dime that you just pictured looks AWESOME. It is way, way better than the quarter you posted....no offense. I don't anyone can for sure tell you if your coins have been cleaned (or dipped) without seeing them in person. However, the signs are there.

Again, that 1892 dime is smokin' hot. I think that you should purchase a few certified Barbers just as a grading reference.

PS - nice collection and impressive how you have it documented.

My guess from the scans are
    Dime: Body Bag
    Quarter: AU53
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
