With all due respect to the seller, I am relieved it did not go for more than that. I'm glad to see some restraint in the market, which is sorely in need of it. The little guys are already priced out of the market for most of the rare stuff, and the way things have been going, soon nobody will be able to afford high-grade common stuff, either. Are we on our way to another 1989-90-style frenzy and crash?
As far as the comparison between the pop. 2 Dolley Madison and the pop. 13 Eisenhower: I wonder if this indicates a larger collector base for the Eisenhowers, therefore stronger competition.
hopefully the last holder of this coin will not have a waling and nashing of the teeth
but i guess collect what you like and like waht you collect and buy coins ONLY with discretionary funds/money you can afford to lose that if you did lose it woulfd not effect your life in any way so i guess how can you go wrong if you do the above?? and if you did the above i guess you ARE okie now i am sure there would have been better choices with the $$ in my opinion but that is water under the bridge
i hope the new buyer did the above but i have my doubts!
I was very happy with what the coin bought. The first one sold on Teletrade for $2,850 last November. I thought the coin would bring $2,000 - $2,500. Was thrilled to get $3,000. I think the IKE design is a little more popular than the Dolley Madison design and that might be why it brought more money with a higher population.
It is true PCGS is starting to grade more coins 70 but I think they are being very careful. It's not like they are pumping them out in massive quantities. Seems to me the demand is so strong that the market can absorb the coins being graded without any problem.

Maybe the plastic collectors are taking notice that more and more plastic is being made?
