How do you verify populations?

I know both NGC and PCGS, along with the other services, keep population figures for each grade. With all of the "Slab Cracking" and crosses, isn't reasonable to assume that the population figures on all sights are overstated?

Yes it is. It is very reasonable to assume that very little of the pop report for any company represents anything close to accuracy. Remember also that this report represents the population of people who send their coins in to the services and the coins they have sent in...not the vast number of people such as myself who have the coins, but prefer to keep them in my own form of holder.
