I am really trying to find something nice... This takes the cake.....This seller must think the crack in the bell is what constitutes a FBL? And even that is almost worn away. I have to write this person a message....

  • I think the scratch from the H to the bell is a full lineimage
  • I also ran across this at a show yesterday. Tons of Franklins there, mostly in flips. Far too many marked MS-6X that were obviously circulated, being passed off as weak strikes. I must have looked at about 70 halfs trying to find a true MS-63/MS-64 for the dates and MM I needed. What I was finding was a lot of trash way way way way way over graded at MS-64 or MS-65 that had typical Franklin problems galore. Scratched faces, edge marks all over the place and quite a few with scratches and gouges from unknown sources. I only came home with 3 additions this time. 7 to go!!

It is being called another full bell line? That is a sad looking Frankie.

  • I had a 1953-P in a MS65 PCGS holder that was struck as weak as this coin. My first reaction when getting the coin in the mail was that the PCGS had made an error in its grading. I had no idea that Franklins could be struck with so little detail. It looked like an EF coin in a MS holder.

Needless to say, I sent the coin back and now own a really well struck 53-P. The coin looks like it came from a totally different mint.

I have since seen many Franklins slabbed in MS holders that look like VF to EF coins with really weak strikes. Why would someone want to get a Franklin slabbed that is poorly struck anyway? Why would anyone want to try and pass off a poorly struck Franklin as a FBL?

  • Lucy what are you talking about? I can see the Full Bell outLine. It is so obvious.image
