OK - So whats the procedure for cracking a PSA Slab?

I've never done it and want to re-submit some cards.

So, what is the procedure.

If this has been answered before, forgive me.

  • Dale, while Bruce has some very good info on the link provided. For me, its been real easy for any companies slabs and haven't had any problems. I take an awl, for those who are tool challenged, the thing that looks like a small ice pick but has the fat wood end, use a hammer and awl and break the 2 tops ends (flip ends), the corners will break off. I then take a standard (flat) screwdriver and slide it between the slabs at the top (over the flip) and simply twist it will pop apart without much effort. This has worked without any problem on all holders. The Beckett holder is probably toughest but a little careful coaxing it will come apart with no problem. Hope this helps.
Stan Musial topped the .300 mark 17 times and won seven National League batting titles. A three-time MVP, he played in 24 All-Star Games. Probably, the greatest player who is overlooked and underappreciated.

you plug it in and saw away holding the case firm as to not shake the card during vibration. This link has no information as to the best days of the week to insure libral graders on on the job! Does'nt anyone know this?? lol* raiders & eagles***

I have a standard method that works for all slabs (PSA,GAI, SGC, Pro - u name it!)

I pu the slab on my driveway and then back over it with the conversion van. I can then remove the card quickly and easily!

But, I have to tell you... I've decided against sending most of them back in for regrade.image

  • A Swiss Army or any very sharp pen knife will do. Use sawing motion on either top corner at the seam with knife at angle to corner applying medium pressure. Once cut is made, use prying motion until casing starts to crack. Then pry with screwdriver from top so that you are not near card.

  • I like to prop the holder against the curb of my driveway (make sure you leave a small gap between the holder and the concrete) and back my corolla over it. If that doesn't work, I find that the toaster works well at weakening the seal before re-trying. image NOTE: Pro and USA holders are unresponsive to this or any other type of treatment.
