A Plug For Davalillo

I just completed a transaction with Jim Crandell (Davalillo) and it was great working with a man of his word. Jim had me set aside nearly $19,000 worth of cards for his 1951 Bowman set. He promised to pay me after the first of the year, when he got his bonus check. This meant that I would wait about four months to receive the money. Not only did he come through right on time, but he even broke the payment into two separate checks at my request so that my bank wouldn't place an automatic hold on them.

Anyone who is interested in doing business with him in his quest to build one of the most amazing Registry collections can rest assured that the transaction will be done in both a timely and professional manner.

  • i don't wanna make jim blush, but i'm forced to 2nd vargha's comment...davalillo has helped me twice complete sets i needed, driving a hard bargain both times, but definitely a man of his word. one of the pleasant and professional collectors i've ever come across!

Got any PSA 9's from the '53 Bowman Color set?
  • Hi Everyone,

I have emailed Jim and I feel he is one of the great collectors who makes this all fun. Not to plug David Vargha, but he is also one of the reasons I have alot of fun collecting. Keep up the good work guys. The Graded sports cards hobby needs more straight shooters like the both of you.

Davalillo is as good as gold. Several transactions, and never a problem. I'll take his money any timeimage ...jay
  • I agree. Excellent person to deal with.

  • I agree completely. I have a very similar story to Vargha's with a large lot of '64 Topps (only about 10% the cost). Held for several months. Paid right on schedule. Add to that he traded me the final card to complete my set in PSA 8 and better.
  • I also will concur Jim is a great guy to work with in this hobby and the massive amount of PSA cards he has is a great accomplishmment. I think he is an ambassodor to PSA and a very serious collector.

    David,

Thank you for the kind words. I very much appreciate you holding the cards for four months until I received my bonus and I could start a new card budget. Only about 35 more psa 8s or better to go for 1951 Bowman. At least I do not have to bid against Branca or Merkel for the cards I need. Hope to see you back collecting another set soon David.

    Andy,

Thanks. Your 33 Goudey Sports Kings and 53 Bowman Color sets are awesome--the best out there. I am watching to see if you can get to the top on the ultra-tough 1953 Bowman Black & White. Good luck.

    Mike,
Keep tryin'-maybe we can do some deals soon.

    Jay,

Thanks for all your help on various projects. But Kris was hear this morning, Keith Abrams is making a dropoff tomorrow, Chris Porter just found over 50 cards I needed and you know how I feel about Steve. But you can move up from 5th if you give me some 9s from 64 Topps Giants and some 8s from 65 Topps.

    Pinhigh,JH and Stump,

Thanks to you all. I have enjoyed doing deals with all of you.

I can never pass up on the opportunity to request help on my sets.
I have about 100 sets going that I am trying to complete in psa 8 or better--a couple in 9 and one modern one (1970 Kellogg) in 10. All vintage sets are up on the registry--please e-mail me if you have any cards I can use-I will pay a fair price(jdc122@aol.com). I will also sell any card in my collection for well above market.

DAV - Then I better start hustling again, I'll Email you within 24 hours for batch #2 of 2003....jay
  • Mr. "Davalillo" is THE BEST in my opinion.

I've sold him quite a few cards over the years with all deals handled as professional as can be..1) I'd send him a list of the PSA cards I had for sale; 2) he would select the cards he wanted; 3)we'd agree on a price we both could live with; 4) I'd ship the cards to him; 5) payment would arrive on the payment due date..It doesn't get any easier than that!!

A true gentleman and a class act!!!

I agree, from what little I know, Jim is an asset to this hobby. I think any and all hostility towards him on this boards stems from those few "it's not, it is, it's not, it is" posts and pure jealousy over his resources.

I think some people get put-off on his buying and selling prices and take it personally instead of as "just business". As a person who is very black/white, I actually prefer dealing with a person like him.

    Steve,

Thank you. I sing your praises continually on this board and its great to see you post. For those of you who don't know Steve, he is a longtime dealer, among the most knowledgable in the business, 100% honest and trustworthy and a huge asset to the hobby. Steve is understating the "sold him quite a few" cards over the years. I have done more business with Steve than the next 3 dealers combined.

    David,

I agree. Sorry, but I am out for myself and my desire to do something that is truly unique--building 100 sets or more in psa 8 or better. I cannot do this on my card budget alone. I have to trade around my positions and be willing to part with low pop 8s and 9s for extragant sums. I just did this again with 2 cards in the last week. Plus, I am competitive and to a certain extent I view this as a competition as to who can post the best sets. This may put some people off but it is obvious that there are quite a few collectors like this. And thanks, I have never reneged on a deal.

    BobS,

I am not getting into it anymore on 1970 Kellogg. People know my arguments and for the one modern set that I actually collect its not worth the time.

Thanks again to all. There are a lot of very good collectors and dealers on this board.

    Davalillo,

Do you ask extravagant sums for PSA 9's, if you receive a PSA 8 of the same card in return, or do you go more by SMR/market prices in this scenario?

Currently collecting.....your guess is as good as mine.

In this scenario I ask for extravagant sums for my psa 9s. I love my 9s and only part with them when I get one of those offers I can't refuse.

I did the same thing as Jim when I was collecting my sets. It's simply smart business. He's firm about his pricing, but very polite and business like about it. Jim had card needs that I sold to other people because they met the price I was asking and it was more than he was willing to pay. Neither one of us took it as anything other than business.
  • What about Uncle Zardoz? No pat on the back for him???imageimage
  • To all,

I have had the pleasure to work with Jim now for the last 6 months. He gave me the opportunity to help build his sets when I was just starting out, something I will never forget, and we've been able to build on the relationship ever since. He is a man of his word and professional in every way and pays a very fair price for the product delivered to him.Highly recommended to everyone.

Thanks Jim and best of luck in 2003!!

    Keith
  • Jim,
I've only dealt with you once (1950 B FB #4 PSA 8), but you were very professional and very fair in your pricing.

I just came across this and recalled an earlier thread about you being related to him? If forget if you were only kidding or not...

    ANJ,

Kidding--as I recall a particular person whose name I have chosen to forget compared my favorite all-time player to venereal disease(vd)--just to keep him on his toes I asked him if he knew I was related to him--but no, I was just kidding.

  • Davalilo, Jim you have mentioned that you will part will a card that is in one of your sets on the registry. Providing the price is right. I am interested in a certain card and have sent you a PM. You can email me at alohaet@hotmail.com.

    Thanks, Ed
