Not that I know anything about toning, and this is just a guess, but it looks natural to me.

  • image I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is my opinion that this coin is AT. I would not waste my time sending it to PCGS or NGC. Sorry.

Without a few more larger shots, I won't say it with great confidence but I believe this to be artificially toned. I am noticing how the toning crawls onto the rim which is a good indication of AT. Also, in the blowup, there appears to be some hard boundaries between the colors, another AT indicator.

Do you know the coin's history? Was it kept in an album?

  • As far as I can tell, it looks good to me. So, LLLLeap! Send it in.

  • AT or not... I don't know. I do know that I love that pattern of toning.

Clark, I'm with you....Beautiful, AT or not!

  • image Yes it is beautiful. But if it took someone twenty or thirty minutes to do it to this 75.00 coin is it really worth 1700.00. I dont think it is that beautiful. "Highly regarded dealers" are selling 50.00 coins for 1700.00 on EBAY. Think about it. When there is that much money to be made, one should be worried about AT.

Don't get me wrong. I don't love it $1,700 worth!
