Attention Proof Jefferson Nickel Lovers!

Gulp! The first 1941 in PR68 has evidently just been made.

O.K. -- Who's got it?

It was bound to happen ... I only hope it truly is a very special coin to merit designation as the first -- and to this point -- only. Surprising it took this long, but it is a relatively scarce coin in even 67 (56 graded). A 1/0 coin -- particularly among the friendly rivalry at the top of this series -- is sure to attract some big buck bids if it hits the market. Well, if the owner is hiding his hand or otherwise reads this post, I'm interested in your "hand me down." I'm looking for a nice 1941 PR-67! image Can the first 68 for 1940 and 1942 Ty. 1 be far behind? The '42 is particularly ripe as relatively common in 67 (219 graded). You have to think there are some high-end 67s, one or two or more of which could crack through for 68s ... Does anyone think the graders and finalizer are conscious of when they are making a 1/0 coin? Does a coin of this "magnitude" receive the same 10-second look as others?

    RGL,

That would be a great question for the Q&A Forum.

A collector I often deal with in an unrelated area of numismatics bought the 1941 and 1942 nickels in PR68 for his 1936-1942 slabbed proof set collection. Yeah, I know - what a waste image

That obviously is some set, wonder ... is it registered? And, are his coins off market for some time to come, you think? I can only think of the Walkers and Mercs that must reside in that set given the Jeffs ...

RGL: The coins are off the market for a long time, as this collector will not likely need to raise cash for some time to come. However, find me a 1909(svdb) Lincoln in PCGS-MS68RD I buy at a good price and I almost GUARANTEE I can persuade him to sell you the (2) nickels "cheap" image Wondercoin

Consider it a done deal, wonder. I will PM you when I procure the coin, although it is far more likely we may well have to one day discuss my failure in this particular endeavor at the Pearly Gates. image
