Going against your buddy in an ebay auction

I suppose it's inevitable. You kind of get to know someone via email because of the same set you collect, then up comes a card the both of us need. (in this case, a mint 69 fb hof'er).
Suddenly, we're gonna battle it out. I know it's not that big of a deal, I suppose like anything else, it's just going to come down to who's gonna pay the most, but I almost considered having my brother bid on it for me with his handle. Am I goofy?image

  • It's just part of the fun. Just bid with your ID and dont sweat it. You win some, you loss some. Or in my case, you loss a lot of them, and sometimes to interchanges. . .

    scotty.
have i taught you nothing from those wilson franks blood-baths????
    negotiate, negotiate and negotiate.
let him take this one after you let him know you are doing so.
make sure he isn't just in it to "steal" the card or someone alse will win out.
...........and then bully him on the next two or three that come along.

But you'll loose interchanges as your friend??? won't you? LOL***

hey,"Griffith" told me I was weird but he only has two children to take care of. I have a softball team here!
  • Who needs friends? It's all about dying with the biggest stash of sportscards right?
  • If everyone used a sniping service for bidding, we would eliminate a lot of problems, including this one. If everyone placed one high bid and left it at that, it would eliminate bidding wars between competitors and friends. If you are truly friends, you could discuss the auction first, and come to an agreement on who would snipe this auction and allow the other to snipe the next auction in question. Please look at This Thread for a very informative discussion about this topic.

    Caramels,

I'll be your best friend if you stop quoting in every one of your posts. You can just click the "reply" button instead of the "quote" button and then say what you have to say. image

  • What? ( just kidding*)

Wilson franks........after my wife allows me somemore coin for plastic I will send in the thwenty five or so i have. First ,it's more Tango Eggs, 72 Topps high numbers and broken open packs of 51 Topps! For calling me weird,Griff just suffered the blow of me adding a few Tangos to my registry....just enough to bump my pal!!!

I believe I said "warped sense of humor", not weird. And that was a compliment. The "Uncle Zardo" post was pretty funny!
And like everyone else I'll be your best friend of you have a Jablonski for me-my standards aren't as high as Dave, Scott and Shanes!

And on the topic of this thread, I usually put in a snipe soon after the card is listed, and don't look at who the bidders are until its finished. Occassionally a friend will email me and ask me to back off, in which case he lets me have the next one. I've never been stabbed in the back doing this and everyone ends up happy- plus the other guys keep on the lookout for stuff you need, and vice versa. It all makes it that much more fun. Its always easier replacing cards than friends anyway.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

and my real name is Frank Wilson.
and yeah........they named the hot dog after me too.....yeah that's it.

  • LOL
  • Murcer, have you ever seen the back of one of the 1916 Tango Egg cards?? The company who produced them is actually- " L.FRANK. & Co".what do you think? Any chance that evolved into Wilson Franks?? I mean Weiners & Eggs were eaten together around the turn of the century you know!

Never bought one of those, are those the ones you doctored?
I get them confused with "mellow" mints sometimes.
  • "Or whatever" is right as they do not have thin stock and your comprehension is poor as 'getting one over" was not the motive. The idea was to test the skills required to repair real Art.if I was wanting to "get one over" I would not have called them to discuss it now would I. The sarcasm is not necessary and your lack of knowledge at least on vintage cards is obvious so let's not further this.I did not come on here to bantor with you but to do some buying/selling/trading and exchanging with those who know me and maybe some new folks.if that is not your interest than ignore me.That will do just fine for both of us.
