It may not sound like much but I found a MS 1945-P DDR 1-R-II Jefferson. It's the first time I have found something out of the cherry pickers guide... WooHoo!!!

Also looks like it might go FS!!!

Congratulations! And that is great photography there.
  • Congrats! Did you find that with your naked eye or did you use magnification? If magnification was used, what was the magnification. I went through about 100 coins last night and my eyes hurt image and found nothing to boot.

I bought a set of BU wartime nickels in a capitol holder on E-bay, thought I'd break out the cherrypickers guide and see what there was. I checked the coins with my Intel Play scope (USB microscope for the computer). It comes in real handy for DDs.

What do you think about the intel play? Some seem to swear by it and others seem to vilify it.

I like it for looking for DDs and RPMs. The only thing I don't like is that is does not have a X20 or a X30. You get X10 (worthless for coins, and a X60 good for mintmarks and single letters (the pic posted is at X60). A X25 would be great for FBLs and FS. But for $30 you can't go wrong.

I would have to agree with Marty on the Intel scope. It has it's uses for which it does a great job, but it's not an overall tool that you would use all the time (on coins). If you have a family, the kids can make use of it too.

Great find.I hope to own a true DDO or R someday. All you find in circulation today is machine doubling so searching modern rolls is futile.
I,m in praise of the QX3.Ya its a toy but it works great for coins at the 60x setting when viewing mint marks or dates etc.
A great tool for around $30 no doubt.

I paid $99 plus tax....rats! At 60x, it gets tricky, one slight move of the coin and poof, it's out of the picture.

Oops! And congrats on your great find.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

  • With War Nick's the RPM's are quite common but still fun to find. The Doubled Dies are usually easy to spot. There was a war year that had Doubled master hub so nearly all the coins are doubled in one form for that year. Cool find, I found 10 of the 43-DDO's - Double Eye variety just before Christmas.
