Another Bank trip for Halves. Picture of off-center half!

Hit a bunch more banks around here.

First bunch $500 in rolls, got:
11 - 40% silver halves

Next 3 banks a total of apx $1000 in bags from the counting machines, got:
2- Walkers
2- Franklins
20 - 1964 Kennedys
54 - 40% silver halves
And the strange stuff.
1- 1997 Kennedy struck off center.
1- 1971 and 1- 1974 Kennedy struck on a foreign (I think, going to get the scale) planchet. The planchet has no copper center. Quite an interesting find...

    What are your sourcesimage
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • Sounds like some nice ones. What do you do with $1480 in clads? Does the banks get upset when they have to re-count them?

I had fun the last try! I'm not going to shoot for the 15K route though.

Someday I'll post an interesting story about those bank coins. It's all good.

Gee Marty, how do you do it?

I got $100 in halves - 90% beat up casino rejects, more dings than a New York City taxi's bumperimage - probably from Atlantic City, the rest must have come from last year's cleaning of Philadelphia's sewers!image Yuck!image So I just gave up.image

    Nice haul! image

I always take the rejects back to a couple of banks, I never take them to the banks I get coins from, don't want to get the same things I just brought back.

I don't get rolls at the banks, I bought the bag out of the coin counter. As you can see I got 3 times the coins out of the bags then the rolls. Some banks will sell the bags and some will not. My bank will sell me the bags right out of the counting machine, but there are some branches of the same bank that will not sell the bags. I keep a list of what branch I go to and when. I try to make the rounds every three months, that way the bags aren't too full. I went to a new area today, the 1st bag had about $225, the second about $180 and third about $700. I have found that the bags will have more Franklins and Walkers, you rarely see those in rolls. The other thing is that you get whatever is in the bag. If the machine says $250, you may get $247 in coins and $3 in other stuff (foriegn coins, video game tokens, bent coins, ect...). But the $3 you lose in those is outweighed by the silver you find. Also up here we get loads of Mexico 10 peso bi-metals and they are worth a buck each. I have enough for 6 or 7 margaritas on my next trip to south of the border!!!

The off center half is strange, it is only off center on the obverse, the reverse looks fine. BTW it's only a bit off center, but enough for me to notice while I was going through the stuff.

Off Centered coins can't be one sided. At best it might be a slight broadstruck, but that's doubtful too.
Neat coin regardless and a fun find!

Goose was right on the mark - it is a misaligned die. They are rather common in most denomiations. I see them very frequently on cents.
