onza or libertad?

Yes, this is the U.S. forum but two things:
1.the onza design reminds me of the St. Gauden $20-(w/o the clothes and w/wings
2.I just like you folksimage

Which design do you like better? I'm putting a small collection of 1oz silvers together.

    They're the same coin - the one labeled ONZA is an earlier design. They're both Libertads, and Onza is the word for ounce, as in one ounce of silver.

    I've always liked the Onza the best. I think they better symbolize the kind of art that Roosevelt was after. I have a small collection of them myself. I've purchased them very close to melt at shows. I especially like the 50 peso gold, and 25 peso as well.
    Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

    Both coins you have shown are considered Libertads and I like both the old and new designs. There is a silver bullion coin called an Onza. It has a balance scale on one side and were made before the Libertad.

    I own a complete unc.set of silver Libertads in a Dansco,I like the newest design best.

    I'm with nucklehead on this...rather than building the whole set, I'm gonna do the 96-present "new" design.

    I personally like the Chinese pandas best of all...got a full set of the silver 1 oz. to date, and my order is in for the 03.

    The later date is my favorite, but you should check out that design in a proof coin. They are beautiful.

    You should have both, and a fractional proof set. Wonderful depiction of the Italian sculpture of the Independence Angel in Mexico City.

    The romantic story of the two lovers, sort of a Romeo/Juliet tragic myth, is represented by the two volcanic mountains on the obverse.
    The princess, Iztaccihuatl (Sleeping Woman) is the volcano on the left, and the warrior, Popocatepetl (Smoking Mountain) is on the right.

    The 'New Libertad' series was introduced in 1996, with the winged victory sculpture in semi-profile from the previous face-on orientation.
    Every day is a gift.
