1951: Topps' "Red Headed Stepchildren"

"It's hard to believe now, but there was a time when Topps was at the bottom of the baseball card heap. In fact, there was a time when Topps issued sets that weren't intended to compete with other baseball cards."

  • I have to agree, though the information in the article is somewhat flawed. I had several Blue Back Packs that were genuinely untouched and did NOT contain any gum.

Speaking of which, I just broke a 51 red back pack and pulled a Irvin that came back a PSA 9 image

  • I agree with the article. However, try to put together a high grade PSA set and you will have some trouble. I am trying to help my father with a Blue Back set and we are having trouble finding a couple of cards in 8 or above.

Easy to complete but hard to get top grade.
