I sent this Franklin in today in hopes of upgrading it. Think it has a chance? (It didn't upgrade.)

It is super glossy with great eye appeal, but I am not an expert on Franklins. It is currently in a PCGS MS66FBL slab. mdwoods

Maybe they will upgrade it to MS-70 and you can put it up for bids at next years FUN sale.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know little about Franklin Mint State. Good luck, all the same.

Yes it certainly has the look. If it has the luster, it will all depend on the ticks, primarily on the face and bell. Can't tell from a scan. Good luck.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
  • image Hey folks look at this beauty. Finally a coin with real toning. This is a beauty and it looks like a 67fbl to me but Im not as picky as the graders are. I would give it a try though. It sure is nice! By the way, what kind of camera and lighting did you use if you dont mind.

So hard to tell from a scan... The ms67 Frankie I held at Long Beach was a flawless GEM. I could not find a hit anywhere on this half.....

By the way, what kind of camera and lighting did you use if you dont mind.

I used an Olympus C-700 UZ. I had to buy and adaptor and macro lense. The newer model, the C-720 I think, doesn't need that.
I used 2 reveal bulbs and one small halogen lamp to light it. However, in this case the coin made the photo. It really is lustrous. I will know buy this time next week what the results are. The odds are against it upgrading based on the number of 66FBLs(455) for this year compare to the number of 67FBLs(5). mdwoods

Welcome Fairtraderz, I have bought a few coins from you. One at the MSNS show in Dearborn not to long ago.

No dice, the Franklin has be graded 66FBL again. I did get upgrades on 2 out of the 3 coins I sent in. A 2000 P Sac went from 67 to 68. I think it could go higher. Also a 2000 D Millenium Sac went from 66 to 67. Oh well, I still like the Franklin. It is top end for a 66. mdwoods

  • Could someone explain "Full Bell" again to me..This is a good example. Is it because the Three bell lines are distinct on the lower part of the bell?

Dan that is correct, however the area near the crack on those three lines are not always distinct and allowance is given for that by PCGS.
