The repunched date was the die used for the proofs of this year.

I have dealt with this seller a couple of times and he is a very honest, ethical person with a good return policy. A coin like this may be worth a closer look.

It's genuine. I have 2 of them amongst the 600 or so seated quarters in my collection.

Yes, machine doubling was possible in 1852. This is not strike doubling though. It's repunching on the numerals.

Could be cleaned. One thing though, you're going to get long in the tooth waiting to find another in this high a grade.
