Light corrosion on Large cent and PCGS grading?

Will PCGS slab a large cent with some light corrosion? Say a 1794 large Cent. If the answer is "it depends" can people with experience give their story?

Thanks

I just recently passed on a PCGS G4 chain cent. IMO the coin had G6+ details but the entire obverse was grainy in appearance. It was a nice looking coin but I don't know that I could get past that look for that kind of money.

Keep in mind I only saw JPG's of the coin and did not have it in hand. It may have looked better or worse in person.

I dont know.I,ve seen lotsa coins I thought should have never made it into a PCGS slab but for one reason or another they make it in.I,m also sure there are coins that SHOULD have made it in but never did...atleast on the first time around.
Maybe thats how those coins get in there. They just get tired of seeing it so many times they just slab the dumb thing.

Check the Q & A section. For some reason the answer is posted there but no question.

they will rightfully slab colonials, early copper, w/ corrosion, however, i think their grades are generally optimistic on such.

Please excuse this newbie apparently posting in the wrong place.

PCGS will grade a large cent with some corrosion. However, corroision is a negative that will lower the grade, the amount of lowering depending on the severity, location, color, etc. If the corrosion is too bad, the coin would be a no grade for "enviromental damage."

  • David, Thanks. I Posted the question here first and then thought, hey its Tuesday night, all be it late, I'll post it on the Q&A forum since I have no answers yet here, and David will sometimes answer a question fairly late. I posted it on the Q&A forum and Daivd answered it. I found a glaring grammar in my post so I edited the post and the post disappeared but David's answer stayed.

Did David call me a newbie?
