Doubled dies...

I have seen on a few occasions here that at least a couple of participants in this forum are confused as to what doubled dies are and how to tell if a coin was minted with a doubled die. I would like to ask whether you as a group would think it be useful for me to do a multipart series of threads on doubled dies, how they are made, and the different classifications of doubled dies. This would encompass probably six to eight different posts, either in separate threads or in the same thread. Being such an involving topic, I was wondering if there were enough people here who not only would be interested in reading it, but would also gain from it and not get ticked off because of all the doubled die threads?

1. Would it help you, would you gain from a good thread about doubled dies?
2. Should it all be in one thread or in separate threads, split by sub-topic?
3. If it took me five days to a week to write each sub-topic, would you want me to wait until I was finished and post them all in rapid succession, or should I post them as I get finished with them?

Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated. My decision to go through with this will depend on feedback received. The planned finished "class" will be thousands of words with probably close to 200 images. It does take that much to educate properly. It's a "click" thing...once it clicks, you know it and never forget it, but until it clicks, it's nothing but confusing.

I look forward to hearing from each of you.

    - Yes and No. I have a basic understanding from what I have read in books and here. Reading another view or explanation would probably further educate myself. It would also be helpful for "newbies" to read.

    2. Should it all be in one thread or in separate threads, split by sub-topic?

-I say go with multiple threads "Chapters" (See next answer)

    3. If it took me five days to a week to write each sub-topic, would you want me to wait until I was finished and post them all in rapid succession, or should I post them as I get finished with them?

-Post as you write each topic or sub topic.... then again, when I write something I tend to be a perfectionist, go back a few times and re-write. Whatever you are comfortable with.

  • I think it would be great! The more pics the better. Then others could add their own pics.
  • Sounds good to me.
    1. yes and yes.
    2. split by sub-topic. If all in one thread might be a little hard on our dial-up friends.
    3. however it works best for you.
