This topic was actually brought up previously by Clankeye in a previous thread about my 1000th post - that seems so long ago!
I try to post threads on topics that I think might be of interest and/or benefit to forum members. But, I don't always know what people would like to hear about, see or discuss here. So, I'm open to suggestions - let me know what you'd like to see posted.
I can't promise that I will be able to address or discuss what you want me to, but I'll give it a try.
Give me some ideas to work with and I'll go with the majority vote (and maybe the runner up at a later date). You can even vote that I not to a thread, if that's your preference. I await the board's vote.

Or the various design changes with in a given series. All the different metal compositions with in a series too maybe.
Maybe some of the most frequently couterfieted coins?
Several things would be interesting to me. How did you come to make this your business? When you were a collector, what did you keep? Are collectors surrendering the hobby to professionals? Type 1,2,3 dollar gold, long-term storage and preservation of copper color.
BTW - I'll be on a cruise till Monday, so take your time........

How about some -
- grading set photo threads.
- Most over and under valued coins.
- Rarest coins
- Lots of pictures of great coins
My posts viewed times

Also, I sometimes have problems distinguishing between slight wear and a weak strike...Any help?
As you know I could do without the threads on spelling, hidden profiles and such.
Like the 20 cent, are they known for heavy die polishing. I just got one for the set(common 75S) in a NGC58. I honestly thought it was harshly cleaned, yet a close look showed raised lines, Hmmmmmmmmm? That's my question for the day(week), then it's on to the next series.

Any and all help with grading may give us all insight.
Thanks,

Yes, it's coin related because some guy had sex and got killed over it and I just put one of his Morgans in my NGC Registry Set.
Knowledge can be painful.

Why not discus the qualities you look for and what you avoid in purchase of special quality pre-1915 MS coins.
From our discussions I have a sense of those things that you weigh positively and those that turn you off in your selection process. If you have the images to do this you might take a series or even a single date in a series and show a half a dozen coins of the same label grade from a quality service and point out how you order them in desirability and marketability. While there is a degree of personal taste and some subjectivity you bring a great deal of experience to the process and have a great feel for what will be appreciated by the quality collectors. This beyond the label view would help others have a better feel for selection of the right coin at the right price.
This should set up a dialog of others on the forum of what they look for and what they are willing to ignore in their own selection process.
PS I arbitrarily selected the the period because it was the date Michael put forward and it avoids the issues of MS 67-70 modern coins which is a separate issue (for another day) in my mind.

In other words, inherent biases OR how you preclude them. I would like to hear that from a few of our more affluent members too.
Two half dollars arrive at your grading table, both proofs, one is dated 1876; the other 1976. Do you apply the same standards regarding grade, strike, cameo, etc? or are they looked at differently because of the technology used to make them at their respective time?

I would like to see a discussion on pricing. In other words, what makes a coin worth a particular price. Especially when to pay a premium and how do you figure out what that premium should be. In particular, how to value a premium for cameo vs. non-cameo proof or proof-like coins, toned coins. What about split grade coins, do you just price at the lower grade?

Please feel free to make additional suggestions for sub-topics to be discussed.
Thanks!
enough topics for ten years of threads.
