What is happening to PCGS?

northcoinnorthcoin Posts: 4,987 ✭✭✭✭✭
Is it true that a multi million dollar lawsuit has been filed against PCGS for conflict of interest related to David Hall's ownership status? Apparently this follows some defections by respected PCGS leaders over to NGC. Now I see an old PCGS "founder" is being recruited back - is this to save face? What is going on?

Northcoin clearly is here to promulgate an agenda. In another post, currently near the top of thread listing, he claims that NTC is more conservative than PCGS and NGC.

No has been rougher than me with respect to the conflict of issue of PCGS and David Hall, but if a rumor is stated by northcoin then he ought to also disclose the source of such rumor.

Speaking of which, is the fact that I still hold out promise for David to resolve the issue of perceived conflict of interests.

Laura (Legend), states, "This is a rumor that has been going around for months now." Do you insist that she "disclose the source of such rumor"?? image

EVP- To be accurate, he said, "I was just told by a reputable dealer that NTC is actually more conservative in grading than PCGS and NGC."

That is significantantly different from what you attributed.

This dealer claimed that all 3 NTC coins were undergraded according to PCGS' standards.

    DCAM,

It may be that I did not perfectly accurately quote Northcoin. However, I think that I was dead on in assessing his intent. Moreover, one need not be Clinton-esque in parsing language to understand Northcoin. We're not in a courtroom. If you felt that I was close enough, then that is fine with me. If you felt that I was way off base, then I am happy with the correction.

  • PCGS is a darn good company. Not perfect, as all companies are not perfect, but in my opinion, they are a great asset to the coin community.

I have not heard about a lawsuit against PCGS.

Remember, all it takes to file a lawsuit is 160 bucks, about four sheets of paper and about an hour.

Personally, my opinion, there is a very significant difference between claiming an individual made the statement versus claiming the individual says he was given the information from a "reputable dealer". I don't ever mean to get in a pissing match with you. You have my utmost respect. I just feel it is important to lay blame for the statement where it honesty belongs. image

    Thanks, DCAM.

I did catch his claim that his quote is from a 3rd party ``reputable'' dealer. Needless to say, I don't believe that. Anyone can claim that he heard something sensational from somewhere and not divulge his source. There is no good faith belief here. And, since the claim is grossly contrary to my personal observations, I feel it would be wrong for me to just accept the claim -- even the claim that there is a 3rd party dealer involved.

  • I too have been a vocal critic of the "conflict of interest".

People are always interested in the source of gossip/inuendo/rumor/etc.

Northcoin, I could care less about the source, but what are the grounds for such a suit? What are the damages? Who has been hurt?

Personally I think it is baseless and/or untrue. Nonetheless, I would love to see a disconnect from ALL grading services to their retail/wholesale operations which sell/auction coins.

Whether it is northcoins or Laura or anyone else and they state that there is a rumor and they know the source they should state the source of such rumor. If they do not know then they should also state that as well.

    So it's just a rumor?

And NEITHER party is willing to reveal their sources.

Thanks for your various responses. The individual I referred to is someone from whom I have purchased coins over a number of years and he has been with at least two different companies which most of you would recognize. He is not west coast based and I appreciate that there is some bias against PCGS or should I say for NGC that seems to be regional. The information presented to me was not in the context of rumor, but of fact, and that is the reason I was asking for verification, especially regarding the lawsuit which I would assume someone on this board would know about if it indeed has been filed. Furthermore, despite having been presented to me as fact. as many of you correctly noted, I did not report it as fact and until there is verification I wouldn't expect anyone else here to so accept it either. Like most of you, I have viewed PCGS to be at the pinnacle of the grading services although I have noted on this board some questioning by many of various individual submissions to PCGS which at least up to now I have assumed was par for any grading service. I remain of open mind and welcome any and all comment on a matter of shared importance to all of us.

My apologies to those of you who took my question to be of the "When did you stop beating your wife?" variety. I'd be just as pleased to learn that what was reported to me was completely erroneous and in fact as I viewed the initial responses until I came to Laura's post I was ready to write off the information related to me as mistaken. Now I am less sure and hopefully someone who can speak definitively will yet respond. (Either a lawsuit has been filed or it hasn't.) I am also impressed with the concern that many of you individually have expressed about the conflict of interest issue as it applies to all grading services.

A special note of thanks to the majority of you who have focused on the message rather than attacking the messenger.

<< <i>NEWS FLASH!!! ENERGIZER BUNNY ARRESTED FOR BATTERY!!! >>

The Bunny was spotted carrying a large drum which was found to be carrying contraband duracell batteries. Energizer refused comment in the case. The prosecutor is recommending that bail be withheld pending trial when they will be going for a long life penalty. Potential jurors are already afraid, figuring this trial will keep on going and going and going and going...
