1st Time Visiting Local Coin Shop..

Picked up a few cool toned coins I will show pictures off, plus a very nice 1961 proof set I will be submitting and two nice nickle proofs all for $43 bucks. Didn't think I did to bad. I like going to the coin shop much better then online buying. At least I know what I am getting. The Dime is 1947-d in PCI slab MS65 & The Franklin is ANACS PF 66 Slab with beautiful gold toning. Is the Kennedy AT toning or real? What would cause this kind of toning. Thanks!

Ah, yes, I remember my first visit to a coin shop. Seems like only yesterday; actually, that's about right.image

It's real. More like haze, than toning, though.

    Most likely, humidity.

  • Lori - nice pickups at the coin shop -- the Kennedy looks definitely real!

  • Question on the Kennedy. Looks legit to me. Clad coins will tone. Usually its the storage methods for those.

  • I was told the Kennedy was a proof. That makes it silver correct? If not how do you tell.

Need larger scans if possible. Can't tell from the small ones.

  • Kennedy is a proof. S mintmark lower center obverse. To check on silver content, check the reeding on the side of the coin. That's where you would want to hold your coin BTW.

If you see no copper, then its a silver issue.
