Has anyone posted about the live Heritage Auction on Ebay?

I'm sorry if this was already posted. I "attended" the live eBay/Heritage Signature sale over the internet. This was the first time I'd participated in live time bidding on the internet, and found it to be quite interesting. It goes extremely fast and you have to have great self-control (which I don't) to avoid getting caught up in the bidding. I actually bid on, and won a 2 coin commemorative lot, a Bridgeport and Maryland. Problem is I thought I had bought a Maryland and Lynchburg. Oh well...now I wait to see what they actually look like.

    While it can be ok for overlooked items you are paying 5% more than if you had bid directly thru the Heritage website.
    If you go to the Heritage website and search the auction archives here should be pictures of your coins.
  • I realize I am paying an extra 5% by bidding through eBay. If I bid directly through the Heritage site I would be closed out around midnight the night before the actual auction, then risk the chance of being outbid by a floor bidder.
    Basically, Laurie Sperber is right when she cautions against bidding on something you haven't personally viewed, no matter how nice the Heritage scans look.

    Of course if you bid your max, then it doesn't really matter if you are outbid by a bidder off the Heritage site or eBay site or floor bidder.
  • Gregg;
    You are correct.
    However, if I am in a sight-unseen situation, and I am interested in a number of lots, I'd rather not bid my max on one or two, and find that I've lost them, and could have obtained other coins for better prices. So by going live through eBay I can follow the action and hopefully score a lot or two.
    Usually, I will not participate in an auction unless I have previewed the coins. Here, however, there were so many nice Proof Indian pieces I decided to take a chance on a couple of them. Will find out how smart (stupid) I was when the coins arrive.

  • If you decide you don't want the Bridgeport, let me know. image
