1970 Kellogg's pricing on e-Bay

Monday January 13, 2003 10:43 PM (NEW!)

I am putting together a PSA 9 1970 Kellogg's set. I am about 45% through. What baffles me lately is that the current pop. report as of today 1/13/03 lists 27 PSA 9 Joel Horlen #23 cards. I saw one sell on e-bay last evening for $61.00, and I have seen them sell for upwards of $100.00 + in the last few months. However I just picked up a PSA 9 Bobby Murcer #61 (Pop. of 22 in Mint 9) for 33.00 including shipping on e-bay today. Someone picked one up on e-bay last evening for 37.00. Why the 50% cheaper price than the horlen?

I am assuming that collectors just are not checking the pop. that often, or is there some other reason the Horlen is perceived as a scarcer card?

The screen shot attached is from auctions ended last evening.

  • Rocco,

At one point the Horlen was the lowest pop card in the set (under 10 until about 3 months ago). a large proportion of the cards had the problem of a U shaped scratch. At one point these cards were selling at $200+ and $60 would have been considered the deal of the year... It will probably come down more with the increase in population but with ovr 30 people chasing this set it may take a while for this to happen... The Murcer if you follow recent auctions is still priced about twice what other commons have been going for....

  • I thought those Murcers went fairly cheap. There definitely is that "V" shaped scratch that Luxury described for the Horlen. As for the price discrepancy it's not at all unusual to get such differences.

I think the pop. may be a bit misleading as to their availability, as I know of at least two instances in the past of PSA 9 Horlen Hoarding.

Looks like Tommy Agee has the cheese.

Wow, that Agee did go pretty high didn't it! Actually, I didn't find the Horlen nearly as tough as a couple of others- Carlos May was harder, along with 2 more I"m still looking for. I would think that there still is enough of these ungraded that the pops will fluctuate a bit, along with the prices.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I paid $82.oo for my "Chhese" about two months ago. But I had to wait three months after getting snipped by GEMMINTBOSS for around $94.00 I believe. I need the M.Alou card to be done with this "401k leftover set"
