How long have you waited for "THAT" Coin?

I've been searching, waiting, and trying to have patience in looking for a certain coin (Guess which one). I don't want to spend too much, I've been tempted to take a lesser grade, but know that is not what I want to do.

I keep hoping someone will feel sorry for me and say "here it is...and at a bargain price".

How long have you waited to get "That" coin at the price you wanted to pay?

Hmmmmm....I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you are still looking for a 1911-D quarter eagle in MS63 or better. Am I close?

My wait was about five years and every major show and auction before I found what I was looking for.

  • That's the one....I keep tellimyself ...BE PATIENT!! but, that has never been one of my strong suits.
  • I actually waited for about 11 years for the right key date in the grade I wanted.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

I would just keep waiting- don't settle unless the prices are going up, in which case you can sell a lower grade at a profit to fund what you are looking for--- the more you wait, the more the reward when you find it!

Been going on 9 years now - the only 1877 IHC I've ever liked ain't for sale.....would rather die with that hole empty than fill it with a substandard coin!

  • STILL waiting for a 92-CC Morgan....and was heartbroken in losing an auction this past weekend for a NGC F-15 93-S Morgan that I was sure I was gonna get.image Didn't get sniped in the classic sense, but sat on the high bid for 4 days, and the folks started coming in the last 15 minutes taking me out of the running.image

I've been trying to find the finest barber half i ever saw again and buy it this time. It was an 1897 S barber half in p.c.g.s. 64, the dealer who purchased this coin was sitting at his bourse table at central states in may 2000 when i saw it and asked him why he wouldn't sell it nearer to grey sheet [he wanted 3500 with grey sheet at 2200] he said he had purchased it raw at closer to 65 money] ouch! Fullest kenedy half luster I've ever seen on a barber coin ever!!! but the technical surface quality of the obverse fields was borderlne 64/65 quality, funny thing about that is with eye eppeal that outstanding, you would have thought p.c.g.s. would have given it the benefit of the daught, anyway if i ever find that coin again i'll buy it even at the price that dealer asked in 2000. Anyone that knows me would be floored to hear me offer 50 percent above grey sheet for any coin, but you should have seen it! I will certainley buy it if i ever get the chance to again.

  • Believe it or not, this is real therapy for me! I was ready to rush out and buy the best grade available just to complete my set. Now, if I have to wait a couple of years, I'll be patient. In the Meantime, I will upgrade the others. (Frank, Have you got a 63 in the $2 1/2 gold) :-)
