More Pictures - New Camera

Thought I would post a few more pictures I took today with my new camera. These coins are all raw. The 1966 penny is still in the proof set. The Franklin & Quarter came out of the same proof set along with a blue nickel. I still cant get the nickel photo to turn out right. Working on it. Thats all the coins I own in my small collection so far. I will work on that too! =)

    Lori,

Is that '66 cent a doubled die?

  • No, bad photo I guess. Here is a link to another photo and it is fine. Bummer huh...

  • Making good progress Lori - looks like you'll want to play with different light sources and angles and see what you come up with. I find that once I hit on a light source where the naked eye picks up as much detail as I want, then you can point the camera in that direction and try to capture the same vantage point.

Does your blue Jefferson look anything like this?

  • Here is the back picture of that quarter: Link

That proof set was in a unopened envelope and when I opened it the inside was mangled pretty bad and all the coins had toned. The quarter had the most and the Franklin has pink toning on the front. I like it though.

  • I wish Russ. Only you could be so lucky. Even my lavender one is not that nice.

Not to worry, Lori, they're actually relatively common. Sooner or later, you'll score some beauts!

  • holy cow... thats one stunning nickel....but that 66 cent really looks like a doubled die variety. The "LIBERTY" especially looks doubled

  • By the way... I never looked at Russ's IPOTAD collection before, but i just did and it looks amazing. Just goes to show how weak my collection really is. image

  • I received my Ott lights and have been playing with my Nikon 4500 but have not made it to the US coins yet but here is a dark side coin (gold Solidus struck in 652-653 AD at the Carthage mint). Just to give you a little perspective this coin is LESS then 11 mm in diameter, compare that to a US Silver Three cent piece which measures 14 mm (almost 30% BIGGER then this piece is). This coin is thick and weighs 4.4 grams, I hope to get to some of my US coins in the next week or two when I can get some from the box.

Russ and Lori, can you state your camera brands and models? I'm almost ready to buy. Is there any other equipment involved here?
  • I just bought the Olympus C-4000 Zoom. It has a macro capability from .7" and up. Very impressed with it so far.

    Lori,

I gotta say I am impressed with your pics. I have been looking to replace my digi-cam for some time now. I have an Olympus d400 zoom. I looked at Olympus' home page and they have a great feature to allow you to compare their cameras. I think you made a great choice.

I use a Ricoh RDC-4300. They can be had for about $100.
