How many folks are on dial up connections - re: coin pics

I have a GIF logo and am wondering how long it takes those with dial up connections to upload my posts. If it significantly impacts you, let me know so I can delete it.

Thanks!

That's really thoughtful of you. I think about the same thing when I use <IMG SRC= instead of a link. The first time somebody views your post it might take some time to download but it's stored in the temp internet files in the windows folder so the next time they click on it it pops right up because it doesn't have to download from the internet again.

Dial up. Takes about 15 to 20 seconds. Not bad at all.

I usually consider the dial-up connections when I post pics. Most of the time, I post a smaller pic with a link to view a larger, more detailed pic.
  • I don't have that dial-up problem here.

I try to keep all my pics under 50K even though I have DSl. Plus if they are under 50K you can have the CU forums host the pictures for you.

Dial Up here and for most pictures it is no problem. Often wonder if posted pictures are a problem for others also. If so let me know and they will cease. Heck they are only Lures anyway.

Dial up until the 23rd, then SPC have re-installed DSL (2 years and running, 5 different services).
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I have dial up and I'd say that 95% of the pics are no problem. The other 5% are slower but still not all that bad. image

I'm on DSL, yet I try to keep pic sizes small.

When I have to use dial-up, the icons are fine. It's those damn pics in the sig lines that are a pain in the ass.

Cable here rockin and rollin at almost the 5 mb barrier very fast. DSL as back up never a problem for anything including Videoimage
Faster then a speeding bullet, More powerful then DSL, able to leap large pictures with a single bound, look up on the poll it's a bird, it's a plane, it's a dam varmit that bit through my cable again.

I have a dial up at home. It hooks up at 56K and has no problems with anyones images.

At work my dial up hooks up half as fast and things are a little slow. Still not a problem. Once the image is stored in temp it's faster. When I clean out my temp files I have to use the machine for a while for the speed to pick back up.

A fast processor helps too, once the image is in the temp files.

Running single-channel ISDN; it only gets a problem when loading really large pix.

    Very thoughtful of you.

I tooam on a dial-up, and, individually there really isn't much problem, but when several images are within the same thread, it does kinda' get to be a pain in the neck. Particularly when they are imbedded in the signature line AND one is checking, say 3 or 4 pages of threads. Yes after the first time it stores in /temp, but, after awhile, the Windows swap file gets huge and starts to affect response time. But, I've lived with it this long ....

  • Used to be, but changed over to cable. Got tired of the slow connections and drop off's. Now everything snaps up in seconds unless I'm downloading music files.
