i'll guess 64 or 58, i like it alot, looks like it has great luster.

I like the color and lustre. There are just acouple of field marks on the obverse. The cheek looks pretty good. With the usual disclaimer about grading the photo of the coin and not the coin itself...it looks to be a solid MS62 with a reasonable shot at MS63. Its a keeper.

What is going on at the top of the shield?
      • 62 if whatever is going on by the sheild checks out okay.

MS-61, but I would NOT be surprised with anything between AU-58 and MS-61!!

Thanks guy's, the top of the shield thing must just be a reflection or a lighting problem as it looks fine in person. mike image

AU58 and Liberty looks very weak to me. Is it?

MrKelso, yes it does have some strike weakness in that area. I would take a close up picture but I just packaged it up along with several other coins I am sending to NGC. I will post the grade when I get it back. Thanks mike

You win MrKelso! It was graded AU58 at NGC. I was hoping for an MS grade but for $336 I am happy.

      • I need to find out were to buy $20 gold coins at melt.

      • Thanks for the follow up. I did not see the original post, but it looked like the hair over the brow was slightly rubbed.

It is a nice example seen often in $20 Libs in which the AU-58 has much more appeal than the typical MS-62.

Nice coin! In this case, the coin looked like a good MS63. It's one of those cases where you just can't see the wear to tell if it's AU. But then again, since you bought the thing raw then it's not really a surprise because I'm sure the coin has been through the service before so if it is was MS it'd be in holder by now.

AU58 is alittle disappointing. From the photo, it looked MS to me. Oh well...

AU58 is a great grade for that piece. It is a wonderful piece. I have several AU58's in my collection and love them all. Great investment enjoy it and Hold onto it.

Great field luster and few chatter marks for an AU58. The cheek does look a bit flat or rubbed. A very deceptive piece considering it has full and unbroken field luster. I think a "flat" cheek rub is the only thing they won't let those get away with.

AU and low mint state grades are very difficult to discern on gold coins on a computer screen.

mbbiker covered himself real well with those grades. image

Next, mbbiker and others will offer AU-53 and MS-68? image

I have some in MS grades that have more wear but I am happy with this coin for the price and because it is real as I bought this from the same person I got the fake $10 1907-S liberty from. mike image
