What kind of premium for nice toning?

Two MS-65s comparable in every aspect except one displays above average toning.
how do you price it. the untoned is a step down from blast white, and slightly above avg for the grade.

Premium Tone money is in the eye of the beholder.

A recent 42D Merc Dime graded PCGS MS66FB with some great tone went for $250 + on Ebay recently. A regular 66FB coin is a $50 or somewhere around that amount coin. The coin belonged to a board member here.

  • Good answer. so I guess I'll price what I think, and see what happens.

What type of coin makes a difference, some coins are easier to find with spectacular toning than others. Morgan dollars are easier than peace dollars.

For me, minus 20%. I hate toned coins.
  • Let me ask a question about toning. If a coin is left to tone, won't it eventually turn black after a number of years....or sooner?
Now what is so great, aesthetically or otherwise, about a black coin?

Yes, unless the toning process is radically slowed down through encapsulation and removal from a toning source.

Some people think they're cool. I wouldn't mind having one just to see, though.
