Similar story to my post on trimmed cards -- 34G Grove card

It's auctions like this that have to make me wonder. If it actually is an 8 or 9, why wouldn't you just submit it and get the money from it?
Even at a 7, they'll probably get more than what this auction will probably end at.

  • Because it's likely a 6 or trimmed on the bottom right corner.

  • Interesting item.It does look like the card is a little short on the bottom right corner.I wonder what they mean by GUARANTEED to be unaltered or trimmed.I am going to e-mail them and ask that question.I will post their response.I cannot believe that they would guarantee the card if they had an idea that the card was trimmed. There could be many reasons why they chose not to grade it.One of the most obvious that comes to mind is that the card is on consignment,or maybe they need to flip the card for a quick return on their investment.Another is that the card will get a qualifier(OC).I still agree with anjcollection that they would realize more if the card was graded, but then you would not be interested in the card, would you anj?

  • There are several problems with this card:

First of all it is trimmed The left edge is 20% bigger than right on the bottom of the card.

Second from top to bottom it 77- 23% by my calculations which means it is either 8OC or 6 ....

The upper left corner looks a little weak for an 8 to me as well...

My advice would to not bid on this unless you want to send it to PRO ... Then you stand a chance of pulling a 9!

I Can not believe that sellers like this are constantly
taking advantage of buyers like this! And that
Buyers are constantly Dumb enough to Fall For It!

That card is so obviously Trimmed on the bottom
that it is crazy to think that Anyone would bid on it!
  • Forgive a relative novice question but couldn't measuring the width of the bottom edge allow one to miss a 'diamond cut' card? I don't know if this series was subject to the problem or not, but it provides one alternative theory for the bottom edge.

If you look at the back of the card, the patina appears slightly increased toward the edges and that appears pretty uniform along the bottom.

It seems to me that a more sure fire method of determine whether the card was trimmed as suggested would be to take the digital image and measure the length of the right and left edge. They should be the same (though obviously that would not eliminate the possibility of a uniform cut along the bottom.

    What do you all think?

Nothing as sure fire as seeing a card in a Pro holder!

Anyhow if Pro grades it then it's most likely trimmed!image
