Same here, ask me tomorrow morning after Heritage auctions the commems.
The few things of real interest to me are being offered privately (i.e. not in auctions) and are a) expensive, b) in demand from a whole bunch of people, and c) as often happens, I've been told I can have them if I want, but I'm 'second' on the list.
'Second on the list' is apparently a numismatic euphamism for 'that coin?, yeah, um, I sold that to _____ (your arch numismatic enemy) yesterday morning'.
Oh well. Kind of to be expected when you specialize in stuff where there are many, many items with only 10 or 20 known examples.
Its rough out there men. Very rough.
About half my bids were sniped by the next 1-2 increments, the others were blown away by anywhere from 10%-40%over recent winning bids.
First Heritage auction since mid states 2001 where I will be invoiced for less than $20,000. Heck less than $3,ooo from the looks of it!
The next 2 major auctions will either confirm or refute these prices. I say lower pricing, much lower. Bad economy, bad market, RE about to burst, war/terrorism, etc.
Hows the weather in Florida? Get any sun and swim in?
I bought the same thing. What did you pay for yours?
