Wake up, people ... save me from myself!

PCGS PR-68 Jeffs from the 1950s for $19.95? Only bidder? Sniped at the last second? I'll buy these puppies all day at these prices and pops. Lord knows, I have enough proof Jeffs, but cannot resist outrageous bargains sure to appreciate in value ... and, from homerunhall, no less. Please, bid on these coins, run them up, save me some money ... imageimageLINK

Edited to add: Had to look it up. Paid $39 for my existing PR-68 1955 on Aug. 23, 2002 ... and that was a bargain!

  • Randy - I've been watching these auctions for the past few weeks too. What's this tell you about the grading standards at PCGS? That they've gone to hell - that too many coins can and are easily getting these high grades that they don't deserve - and homerunhall knows it or he wouldn't be pushing them out the door for nothing! Remember DHRC is buying coins on the open market not slabbing........ and selling 'em for $19.95 and making a profit!!!! Oh...... I forgot....... he's making a couple bucks on outlandish shipping charges! image Look at the top pop Jeffs that have been coming out of the woodwork in the past month. So much for consistant grading imageimageimageimage

The Jeffs, outside of the onslaught on those trying to get the first PR-69 1957 and ending up with 68s, have not moved much in the upper pops since June ... did you see my analysis of early proof Jeff grading over the past seven months? It is not posted as "deep" over on the PCGS Registry board. I know, and I saw it just today, that the PR-68 1953 Jeff pop has only grown one coin since last June ... The moderns are another matter, however...

Edited to add: The number of PR-68 1955 Jeffs has grown by nine, out of 146 coins of this date slabbed, since last June 1.
  • Did see your analysis and found it quite interesting......... but still I wonder how accurate the pop report is when PR68s are turning up all over the place and selling for next to nothing. A number of "unachievable" grades have been coming out in Jeffs and Kennedy proofs/SMS lately. Pops that were unchanged for years are poppin' like Orville Redenbacher turned up the heat!! Makes me want to hold off on purchasing anything until PCGS figures out and sticks with one grading standard! image

David Hall, himself, has said up to 1 percent of moderns should get 70s and, that is beginning to filter out. I ain't paying multiples of a 69 for a 70, so it does not matter to me ... but, I think the numbers I crunched show that is not having much sway on pre-64 proof Jeffs ... 67 CAMs on the '67 SMS are a dime a dozen now, yes, but the earlier coins, particularly DCAMs, are still a )&*)&(*^*&^! to get a top-notch grade on...

    Edited to fix a typo...
