Intercept shields question

I just read that the Intercept shield holders protect the coin through a sacrificial reaction process, implying that some of the material in the holder is consumed in this irreversible process.

I know it is dependent on how toxic the environment is, but how often shoud the holders be changed out?? What is the estimated lifetime for the reactive material? Has anyone had a holder for a long, long time and the coin inside oxidized/corroded?

Thanks for the link! I did not know the material changes color as it is consumed... very good image

  • Incidentally, the technology behind Intercept Shield was originally developed to preserve long-distance lines, like phone and power lines, I believe. So does that mean we need to replace them every ten years?

Good to be back. Been busy. Weird time of life.

The every 10 years thing is probably like the change your oil at 3000 miles. In other words, overly aggressive but helpful for the 1% who keep coins in adverse conditions.
