If the new designs are terrible...

We all want new designs to replace our ugly, dead presidents (especially JFK )
What if the new designs are worse? Can we really complain for 20 years without our complaining getting old? This could cause a problem with our bit_ching!
Just a thought...

They make the State Quarters worse with their revisions. Its sad that they can't come up with an original design. Its bad enough that they had to use the Walking Lib design on the ASE. It just cheapened it to me.
Then, they go reguritate the Buffalo and make it look worse. It seems that maybe they resurrect old coin designs because they are inept at coming up with anything original.
If the new designs are piss poor......keep the portraits until we get out of the Dark Ages and come up with something worthwhile, as opposed to copying.

But wait...going back to the multiple hubbing process of making dies would cost a lot more - there's no chance they'll do that, right? Well, enter a little decent decision making. Right now, our mint set coins really aren't any different than those put in bags and boxes for the Fed reserve. Well, if we kept making the simple slugs for spending and made nicer, more carefully made, deeper designs for the collector sets, not only would the collector sets be "different", but they would likely reap MUCH higher profits for the mint due to an increase in orders. People would be MUCH more willing to spend $15 on a set of coins that actually looked better than the crap they get from the bank.
Now there's something for the overpaid bureaucrats to chew on...

Yes, the new designs will be awful. They will be bland, ultra-low relief, and super-PC. However, at least they will be new.
As for JFK, it is time he is off the half. He did nothing to deserve being on the half (other than get himself killed), unlike Franklin who was a great American.
kennedy didn't get himself killed, he was murdered!!!
and he was a great war veteran, faced super crisis with both russia and cuba
kennedy was a good american president, it may be time for a coin change
but it may be too late for you, perhaps you should have payed more attention
when you were in school.
These aren't necessary mutually exclusive.
As for his accomplishments, you can have your opinions and I'll have mine. I think his bad outweighs his good. Some others have different opinions....

he also was screwing anything on two feet, including movie stars and mobsters mistresses, not to mention coming from a family of bootleggers and being the son of the JPK who was probably among the most unscrupulous individuals who ever lived, and was pretty much in bed with organized crime.
The acorn didn't fall far from the tree, and it is a pity what ultimately happened to him. It should not happen to anyone, and it was a tragedy. Had he lived longer his house of cards would have come tumbling down and his memory would not cary the revernece it carries today.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

but i hope you aren't among the bandwagon jumpers that shed tears and applaud
our fellow veterans here on this forum simply because it's the 4th of July, and etcetra...
I would too have made mistakes, and even fantasized about marilyn monroe.
Don't make kennedy into a dirt ball just because your are clear.
I like The kennedy half just as much as the lincoln cent and the jefferson nickle
and by the way Jefferson had sex with slave girls and had half black relatives.
I still like Thomas Jefferson, and I love my country even with all of it's faults.
what I have a hard time with my stomach is ,you people laying blanket love
over the internet with the american flag, fellow veterans, and the like, without
paying attention to your schooling.

LOL!
How about Paula Jones? Nah... not enough relief possible for the schnoz
I say we go with the fine people featured in some signatures here
Wouldn't want folks to get too mixed now, would we?

My father landed at Utah Beach and fought his way across Europe as a well decorated member of the Fourth Armored Division. I don't need to shed a tear for John Kennedy (whose war exploits were GREATLY exagerrated, we come to find out later).

I've made mistakes too, but I'm not the President, and I wasn't elected on the faith of millions of people. You get held to a higher standard when the fate of the free world is in your hands.

I have a full set of Kennedy halves, doesn't mean I like or liked Kennedy or the Kennedy family. It means I like coins.

Schooling is the "company line" - the hype so to speak, it's what you pick up after schooling and use to draw your own conclusions via indpendent thinking that counts.
I fly 1000 miles on Veterans Day to post a fresh flag on my fathers grave. What do you do?
<< <i>He also was screwing anything on two feet, including movie stars >>
That's the type of behavior that got "Slick Willie" re-elected, (except he really had no standards), let's just hope that we never see him on a coin!

I think there is hope for new designs. A complete, top-to-bottom, redesign of our coinage is definitely in order. The Sac-a-buck is a good start -- no dead president on the obverse, and a pleasing reverse.
Here's an idea -- take the Sac-a-buck concept further. Put some famous native Americans on the nickel, dime, quarter, and half as well. (The cent should be discontinued.) For the reverses, use the "Vistas of Liberty" designs from the proof platinum eagles. That'd be some nice coinage, eh? At least for 25 years or so.
