Found Dime Today

Found a 1996 P Dime. It caught my attention because it has a very deep stamp (or high rims) on both sides. It is very clean and has almost no wear. The edge is smooth like a penny with a neat copper line centered all the way around. Is this an error? Is this normal? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

Welcome! Compare it against a regular dime. See if the width is just a bit wider on this one than the other. It's possible it was struck w/o a collar. Can you post a picture for us?
  • Thanks for the welcome! Just restarting my collection after 20 years.

It is smaller in diameter than a standard dime with taller rims and the edge is smooth showing the copper core (i guess). Its almost like it is compressed but with no disfigurement on front or back face.

I'm waiting on my digital camera to come in so hopefully I can get a pic soon.
  • After closer inspection, it looks like 'United States' is slightly cropped at the top.

Somebody has altered it by grinding the edge down or it has been dropped through a LOT of coke machines.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
