Anybody ever hear of Scottsman Auction Company?

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
I got some SPAM from them about an auction at a site URL of www.scoins.com. Ever heard of them? Anybody else get this eMail? I bought a coin a while back on eBay from Scottsman Coins. Very sloppy transaction, seemed pretty disorganized and slow to respond and ship. Is this the same company?

I know someone who consigned to them. I never did ask how it turned out. I will try to remember to call them and let you know. mdwoods

Same company. Since I live in the region I have seen them at shows time and time again. They don't sell what I collect, so I don't stop at their table often. Once in a while they will bring along a box of Canadian large cents that I look through, but I rarely buy from them because what I have seen of theirs was overgraded and overpriced.

  • I've bid in several of their NTL auctions without any problems. Scotsman Coins is a very reputable firm, in my opinion.

Scotsman (one "T") has been around a long time, and one usually sees their advertising in magazines like Coins or CoinAge. I've never done business with them, personally.

........Scotsman Coin is out of St. Louis. i've won a couple of eBay auctions from them and had courteous e-mail and phone correspondence with the guy who handled eBay for them, i think his name was mark. while i guess you received the e-mail because of the purchase, it isn't really spam in the strict sense, but it can certainly be just as annoying. funny, i didn't get one!!

    LM,

You're right, it is only one t in the name.

    Keets,

I'm not as annoyed as I usually am since they didn't cull the eMail address or grab it from a spam list.

  • Scotsman Coins, owned by Jay Woodside, is the most reputable coin dealer in St. Louis. I've worked with Jay in the past and have seen him at work. He's hard working and very ethical. I don't know about his current staff so I can't say anything about the couple of 'problems' mentioned, sounds like they were busy. He has a very nice shop located on Olive Blvd in the Creve Coeur suburb about five minutes from my office.
